  1. I got the puzzle squares which worked well but will not stay still on my carpet, moved all over the place. Next I got the mats same thing, felt great but slid across the room. Always wore my crocs, but still needed the padding (I'm only 5FT tall). I have the shape ups, were them for work and love, love them. Guess I'll try quilting in them but I really hate to wear shoes. I agree the shape up sandals are great, I happen to get a pair for 50% off when I got my shape-up "Mary Janes".
  2. Who has the snap together ones on carpet? Mine slide all over the place, causing me to tripp over them. I'm going to IKEA (first time) in a few weeks, do they sell these mats? If I wear Crocs my feet/legs feel better, but normally I quilt in my bare feet. After years of being trapped in combat boots my feet scream to be free.
  3. Matt, where's it at? I have carpet and placed those "lock together" mats on it. The mats feel like heaven but I'm going to kill myself on them because they move!! I need suggestion also.
  4. I've never seen worms in any batting. Maybe it was a "bowl weevil (can't spell)", they get into the cotton plants.
  5. I love the sheets sold by Electric Quilt fabric sheets. The same company that makes EQ6. They have several different thread counts and types (fusable/sticky/etc). They was really well also. I know a lot of the quilters here love the printed treasures. Before I got into quilting I used the June Taylor and the others carried by JoAnns and Hancocks and had the same disaster that you spoke of. My first try, I didn't take the paper backing off the back, lol I've come a long way since then :cool::cool:
  6. Stephanie, I'm a Navy Vet also!!! I did 27 years in the Engineering fields, retired in 2007. Let me talk in Navy terms. APQS uses aircraft grade aluminium and hand welds (mig/tig) the joints. This makes our machines very light and durable. There's very little PMS which includes oiling and cleaning the wheels. Parts are readily available and easy to procure. The machines are a beautiful shade of "gray". Controls are in your hands at all times. If you computerize the machine, no watch required. Seriously, welcome and have fun test driving all the machines. Let us know what you choose, no matter which brand.
  7. Stephanie, Test drive, test drive then test drive some more. Everyone loves the machine they have. Both are great machines. I chose APQS because of the customer service, the forum (APQS is open to everyone, nothing to hide), the machine glides like silk on silk, little to no maintenance and if there's a problem 99% of the time you can fix it, even the timing if you get a rag in the bobbin case!!! Anyway, I had a great rep, which I met at a quilt show. I had two really bad experiences with Quilt Show Gammill reps. I also liked the fact that APQS did not talk trash about their competitors. Where do you live? There's a show in Lancaster PA on 24-27 APR, Providence RI in April etc. Check for your local rep, they will be happy to let you drive their machine anytime. I have an IQ on my APQS machine and love it. The IQ and Computquilter can be added onto your machine after you get it. I recommend that you learn to do freemotion and get to know whatever machine you chose to buy before getting a computer. I use Machine Quilter's Business Softerware but Quick Books is great also. I'm in Virginia Beach and an APQS rep, contact me if you're close by. Welcome to the forum and the adventure!!!!
  8. My sewing studio is a small building outside that isn't heated or air conditioned unless I'm in it. I haven't noticed any problems with the 4 cabinets I have with lifts.
  9. I have the Horn Quilters Dream with the drawer cabinet added. I love the room it gives me for munipulating large quilts. I have a Bernina 820 so I needed the extra strong lift. http://www.hornofamerica.com/products.cfm?func=productdetails&productID=92 I also have several arrow cabinets too, they're good medium priced cabinets. I'm a sewing machine junkie, I have 7 plus 2 Brother 6 needle embroidery machines, 1 Serger (never used) and my best buddy "gator" (millie).
  10. Marlette, congrats on your new LA. You are going to have fun, fun, fun!!! Don't forget to breath as you PPP. I was a DSM quilter for a long time and it took a little time to get used to moving the machine instead of the quilt. Have fun, can't wait to see your quilt pictures.
  11. I like Quilter's Dream Wool or Dream Green (recycled soda bottles).
  12. I'm looking for the book called Magical Hexagons. I just saw a demo on Simply Quilts but when I googled the book and author it said that it was out of print. Amazon has a couple but they want 51.00 for it.
