Poor Man's Bread

In a saucepan, boil for 5 minutes:

2 cups water

2 cups sugar

1 tsp nutmeg

1 tsp allspice

1 cup butter or margarine

2 cups raisins (I use a mix of yellow and regular ones)

1tsp cinnamon

1tsp cloves

1 Tbsp cocoa (if darker bread is desired)

cool mixture to lukewarm. Add:

4 cups flour

1 cup walnuts (optional)

1 tsp baking soda

Mix well. Pour into two loaf pans, sprayed with Pam and bake at 350 until a toothpick comes out clean, approximately 1 hour.

This bread can be served hot with cream poured on top (tastes like bread pudding) or sliced thin and buttered.

added advantage...makes your house smell yummy!
