Farmland Quilter
How do you set the tension when using Superior's Monolon? I received some from another quilter to try.
LynnQuilts
It has to be loose.
Farmland Quilter
So if you have been using Glide with So Fine in the bobbin do you think I will need to loosen it more? I will put Bottom Line in the bobbin.
ffq-lar
If you have a Towa gauge, set the bobbin tension at 15 or less. That is VERY loose. Thread the Monolon through the needle and keep loosening the tension until, when you pull the thread through the needle towards the back and then ease up the pulling, the Monolon doesn't kink or curl in front of the needle eye. The tension disks probably won't even be touching! This allows the thread to stitch without stretching. I always do a stitch-out off the quilt to make sure everything is working right, especially with this combo. Monolon likes as few tension points as possible. Those points are where the thread changes direction in the thread path. Some only thread one hole in the three-hole guide above the tension assembly. I use Monolon with great results. It's perfect for SID where high-contrast colors touch.
Oma
Would you use monolon on quilts that are just "regular" quilts not show or wall quilts? Can they go through the washer and the dryer?
CrazyAboutQuilting
Oma, I have used the monolon on several of my quilts, mostly appliqued or machine embroidered, and they have all been washed and dried several times and it hasn't affected the monolon thread at all. Works great!
quiltjunkie
I only use monolon for SID..it's just not a top thread of choice or as I refer to it...fishing line.
