This is a detail shot of a JN pattern called Desert Sky. I used BL gold thread top and bobbin throughout.

The paper-pieced stars were quilted with a design in the spikes and no quilting in the opposite spikes. That made the circles the focus.

I figured with the odd-shaped background--the L-shape, squares and rectangles for the border, I needed a meander-y overall and decided on ferns. Not very desert-y but a graceful choice.

She was very happy with it.

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside all people. He said, “My son, the battle is between two 'wolves' inside us all. One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.  The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: “Which wolf wins?” The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”     -- Author unknown

I love these Judy Niemeyer  quilts.  Every time I see one, I want to make it.  And, I have a Glacier Star of my own waiting to be quilted.  This is a very pretty quilt, and I love the look of the ferns in the squares.  Very pretty, as always.

You're right the circles do stand out and they look nice that way.  Always a new idea from Linda.
