Enchanted Quilting
I just finished piecing this large Amish with a Twist II thanks to a retreat and time over my quilitng for customers "break". Has anyone quilted this one?? It is traditional piecing, but the colors make it more modern. I'm thinking of doing some modern twists to traditional fare. Any thoughts? Also, this project was entirely Kona Cotton Solids...just gonna say I have a love hate relationship with these Konas!! Busy Quilting
It is screaming modern for the actual blocks but I see a curling Amish Feather in the borders.

RitaR
I can see feathers meandering around in the lightest areas next to the dark star, Maybe use the very center block as a sun with rays coming out from it, into the points of the darkest star. Maybe something like leaves and vines with tendrils in various places... in the two medium dark areas, and back to meandering feathers in the darkest areas. The border.. just do something Beautiful.. can't wait to see it finished. Feathers would be nice there too, maybe alternating with a complimentary design. What did you decide to do, or are doing with it? Rita
Enchanted Quilting
No ideas either but also love it. What do you mean by love hate relationship with kona solids? K The Love...they are strong, true colors and wash like a dream. The Hate...no matter how I press the, they seem to have a memory of their own and puff up a bit. The main reason though, is the cut edges...they leave thread stragglers everywhere...I feel like I am wearing my project!! You should see the back of this project...whiskers all over the place!! I do know I will be using two layers of batting and have selected a medium dark gray for the thread. Looking forward to it!!

chickenscratch
I see feathered wreaths in the light squares, then lots of line dancing, SID, and 1/4 quilting; a big, wide, gorgeous feather in the outer border
CrazyAboutQuilting
Is it done yet? Did I miss the finished pictures of this beautiful quilt? I agree with Teresa's suggestions.
RitaR
When your fabric gets whiskers, snip in about 1/8" every 6 inches or so.. if it's real bad snip it about every 3 or 4". If no one pulls on the fabric edges, this helps a lot. Rita
Quilting Heidi
I would definitely do feathers in the outside border. I would also do a dense background fill in the light center, then SID the rest and make those blocks pop.

sewingpup
Love this quilt....I was considering making one but looked at all my UFO's LOL....anyway...I just finished stitching a 100 block challenge where each is different.. They finish at 6 inches and some had many pieces...also noted that some of the fabric seemed to fray more...so I stay-stitched about an 1/8 of an inch around each block as I figured it would be fraying as I tried to figure out how to arrange the blocks...I think I will do that again depending on the quilt...it really seamed (pun intended) to help....Lin
Kueser
Have you seen Angela Walters work? She does modern mixed with feathers. Check out her web site: Quilting is my Therapy. I would paste her link here but can't figure out why it won't paste. Is this a pattern? Love it.

Enchanted Quilting
This quilt is still waiting to be quilted. Customer quilting has overtaken time for my own. I VOWED this would never happen...but it has. I have taken December off to catch up. Next year I will be allowing more time between quilts and hopefully not taking in ones to fill the gap. I love to piece, design and quilt...and in 2015, I'm going to do it!! Linda Rech quilted Amish with a Twist II this summer...you can find great pictures on this forum and on her Flickr page...always inspirational quilting!! RitaR
A serger works wonderfully for taming the frizzies.. only on larger pieces though.. Some can be a terrible pain in the but, she's cute, she's got dimples on her, but she's sweet. lol.. older brothers influence there. I always serge edges when I wash the fabric. Fairly clean washer and dryer. Rita
