Gasket in hook area?

I know what's behind it...grease!  When I had my machine serviced Dave packed the grease and it was so full it kept oozing around that gasket and the gasket came off a couple of times.  Grease got on a quilt once, but it came out ok.  Now it's sort of normal and the grease isn't oozing anymore and the cap isn't falling off anymore.

Oh wait...you're talking about that little blue gasket on the bottom aren't you?  LOL.  Sorry!  :D

Betsy:  I don't think that's a gasket.  Well, not the type you usually think of.  I think it's silicone "form a gasket".  If it's not leaking grease, there is no problem.  You can leave it as it is, or if you like simply trim off what's loose or sticking out.  If on the other hand, it's leaking grease, you'll need to take the cover off, and re-seal it with new gaske sealer.  Good luck.  Jim

Betsy,

You don't need to do anything with that blue sealant. It was originally put between the gearbox and the housing of the machine to help dampen sound, but it is NOT what holds the grease inside the gearbox. Even if you peel out all the blue sealant it would be fine. It also does not need replacing, so you can just relax and ignore it. If the loose end bothers you simply use a sharp tool and snip that piece out.
