dbams
While cleaning out my hook area the other day, I noticed the gasket(?)/cushion around the edge is coming out. Is this normal, or do I need to do something about it? Thanks in advance!
Primitive1
I don't have a gasket on mine, I just use clear silicone to put around the edge. I assume that it is to keep the grease from leaking out…I would just poke it back in and if it comes out again, I'd run some silicone around the edges. dbams
Thanks, Vicki. Don't think I can poke it back in, but I'll give it a try, and if I can't, I'll use silicone. Didn't know what was behind it.
Oma
I know what's behind it...grease! When I had my machine serviced Dave packed the grease and it was so full it kept oozing around that gasket and the gasket came off a couple of times. Grease got on a quilt once, but it came out ok. Now it's sort of normal and the grease isn't oozing anymore and the cap isn't falling off anymore. Oh wait...you're talking about that little blue gasket on the bottom aren't you? LOL. Sorry! jimerickson
Betsy: I don't think that's a gasket. Well, not the type you usually think of. I think it's silicone "form a gasket". If it's not leaking grease, there is no problem. You can leave it as it is, or if you like simply trim off what's loose or sticking out. If on the other hand, it's leaking grease, you'll need to take the cover off, and re-seal it with new gaske sealer. Good luck. Jim
DawnCavanaugh
Betsy, You don't need to do anything with that blue sealant. It was originally put between the gearbox and the housing of the machine to help dampen sound, but it is NOT what holds the grease inside the gearbox. Even if you peel out all the blue sealant it would be fine. It also does not need replacing, so you can just relax and ignore it. If the loose end bothers you simply use a sharp tool and snip that piece out.
dbams
Thanks everyone, and especially Dawn, for answering my question. I did have the impression it was for sound or vibration reduction, but when I saw it coming loose on the one side, it seemed like a good idea to make sure. Primitive1
Always wise to ask… I did not know that it was blue and I also did not know that it was to help with sound…Dawn is always so good to jump in and answer questions and I always learn something new! dbams
Vicki, I didn't know it was blue either - it looked black to me! Love these forums and the help we can get from each other as well as Dawn and the APQS team!
