The instructions for George indicate that I should place a drop of oil in the bobbin area at every bobbin change. Does time play any factor with oiling the bobbin area? If I have not quilted with George for a few days, should I oil the bobbin area before quilting? I don't want to over-oil him so I wanted to check in with the experts. Thanks for your help. ffq-lar Posted April 16, 2014 Report Share Posted April 16, 2014 I oil at the start of each quilting day, in conjunction with the warm-up. I re-apply if I have a long quilting day. I live in a very dry climate so I check his wicks periodically during these long breaks. The wicks only need to be oiled infrequently. I will typically put a drop of oil in the bobbin area about every 3rd or 4th bobbin unless I am using very linty thread in the bobbins. I agree with Madelyn…I can hear a difference when my George is due for an oiling or a spa treatment (clean out, WD 40 and oil). That was a very good question, Cindy. It's great that you're being conscientious but also important not to over oil. Hope you are enjoying getting to know your new BFF. daviesla Posted April 17, 2014 Report Share Posted April 17, 2014 I only oil in the morning when I'm getting ready to quilt. I do clean the excess lint out after every bobbin change though. I've got a video on Youtube that might be helpful. It is based on a video Jamie Wallen posted about oiling his stand up longarm and I've applied it to George. I don't know about you, but I have a lot of trouble trying to oil the bobbin case from the underside. I'm not a contortionist:) Hope that helps!
