DoryJM
Here are two pics of a log cabin quilt that my customer wants custom on. I'm trying to come up with ideas that will give her different price points. Its a BIG quilt (108 x 108) and since I'm not in love with it, I haven't come up with ANY ideas. At this point, I'm wishing it would quilt itself!! HELP!!!!!!
Neher-in-law5
Do you have a swirly design that you can put in the light cross, lines in the small dark square and viney something in the sashing? Good luck.
Oma
I didn't think I "loved" it either until I kept looking at it. It's very rich looking fabric. So do something very elegant and swirly on it.
Primitive1
Wouldn't covering it with those meandering hooked feathers be quick and look good?
ffq-lar
I agree with Vicki that hooked feathers would be pretty all over the top. The colors don't have a lot of contrast so you can get away with an overall. If your customer wants custom, here's a link to Flickr with a quilt from several years ago, with scrollwork in LC blocks. They require some marking at first. Plus a start and stop in each, but are pretty quick to stitch once you've done a couple. That would be an elegant design for those formal fabrics. https://www.flickr.com/photos/larech/13958057845/
LibbyG
In the blue sashing, I'd treat each separately by starting in the center using the line as a spine, and feathering out to the next block. Then again for each of them. You could put diagonal lines in the part next to it, and the fill in the center could be some type of design that would fit it. mamu
This is what I call a "Foo Foo" quilt..meaning that it is quite lacy and elegant looking. With that in mind I would think what would add to this quilt to continue that look. Hooked feathers would be very nice. Any type of feathers actually. LeannM
Straight lines in the center crosses and feathers in the square areas around that center cross?
chrisquilter
Dory, are you on Pintrest? Go to my page Chris Landis and there is a board called FMQ Log Cabins. Not a lot of pics, but there some good ideas I think.
Quilting Heidi
Dory I'd do diagonal lines in the blue/purple areas and feathers in the white area. On the lines I'd do them so that that form concentric squares on point. Does that makes sense? Feather meander would also be great on this quilt. Sheri Butler
Love the hooked or curly que feathers I call them...the reg feather, then a curly que, then a reg feather...etc. in the white/beige area. I AGAIN ditto Heidi's re: straightline in the darker areas. And it wont make a dif how you do it IMHO..just something straightlined in there. The Blue Cross and the Green Border "could" be treated with the same quilting design! Would make it easier transcending into it too!!!
DoryJM
You guys have all been so great and free with your design ideas! Thanks you so much. I was able to take them all and come up with more of my own; my customer has made a decision and is happy with her decision and my price. Win/Win!!! DoryJM
I did finish it and will be posting pics soon. Of course, I took everyone's advice and then did something completely different. Its just the way I'm wired!!
