new ruler for marking

Recommended Posts

Jamie Wallen has a great new ruler that I purchased at MQX and I just have to say I love it more and more. It is for cutting and not for quilting (not 1/4" so won't work to stitch along) but I'm using it for primarily for marking. It has a handle on it that makes it super easy to mark borders and move it along. Very easy to divide up those big borders or mark the center of the border or divide it up into sections.  I debated about buying this ruler only because I have so many rulers I could use for marking.  What I found intriguing is the handle.  Boy am I glad I bought it. I've also used it for drafting and the handle makes it so easy to move it around. I suggest it to my quilting buddies.

This ruler isn't on his website yet but if you email him I'm sure he will let you know pricing.  He is a Paducah this week if you're going.  It is somewhat similar to his ditching ruler but not as think and it is yellow.  I got the 11 1/2" one because it fits nicely sideways on the frame.  I may have to get the bigger one too.  I think he has them up to 24".  If I remember right he had 2 or 3 sizes.  His website is:  http://www.quiltersapothecary.com/rulers/la-rulers/index.html

I took a class from Jamie at MQX in Portland last fall and got two of his quilting rulers- a small one and the one that is about 8" -- I really love the handles on these rulers!

I was having trouble using rulers because of my arthritis but Jamie's handle gives me a secure grip without the pressure. I am sure this marking ruler would have that advantage also.

I've been wondering about handling his rulers. I didn't know if the handle would be aukward ( misspelled I'm sure ) or not.  Looks like it's unanimous in favor of the handles. Thanks for sharing.

I haven't found the handle to be awkward at all.  It is very comfortable.  Watch Jamie demo it, I'm pretty sure there is a utube, he has a specific way to hold it while using it for quilting (not this specific ruler but his ditch rulers).  It seems to be ergonomically correct and helpful.  I like it because for marking I don't have to try hard to move that ruler.  Sometimes they just have a mind of their own and grabbing it to move it along doesn't always go exactly the way I want it to go.
