clover_enge
Has anyone used a laser level to keep everything even while quilting? It seems like it should work, but haven't figured it out. Curious if anyone has accomplished it. Nancy Engebretson
K. Szymaszek
Hi Nancy, I bought one years ago thinking it a good idea. If you figure it out, please post. K
jimerickson
Nancy: What are you trying to level? The level might help you level your table, but when it comes to actual quilting the movement of everything is too dynamic for a level to help. Aithne
I just saw something about using the laser level to square up your quilt top before you start quilting. It sounds like a really good idea but I haven't tried it yet. I'd have to actually finish something first. http://quiltskipper.com/2013/06/04/squaring-up-morning-breeze-2/ Perhaps for quilting, you just shoot the beam and use that as a guide . . . Let us know if you figure it out
clover_enge
Actually Jim, it is to keep a quilt square on the frame. Others, If I figure it out, I will post. Nancy
Busy Quilting
My mother's day gift from my husband was a 90 degree laser level. My request!. It has two beams at right angles to each other, I can sit it on top of the quilt with one beam straight up the side, to the marked quilt edge on the rollers and scooch the quilt across the frame to have it square to the second beam. LindaSteller
I use mine when blocking a quilt (mostly whole cloths) after soaking. I just use pieces of painters tape on my leveler bar to assist in keeping things straight on the machine.
Primitive1
I have one and like to use it to make sure that my quilt is loaded straight - but that said....you can accomplish the same thing with the channel locks...
Zora
I use mine to block the quilt square after it is quilted. I agree, my channel locks keep the sides square. I will give it a try on the frame next quilt. Mine is also the 90 degree type. Very cool.
RitaR
Thanks, I think I can use the square and laser to square up my quilts after quilting, and get a nice perfectly (as close as I can get it to perfectly) square to bind. I'm not so sure about using it on the quilt frame. seems it wouldn't give the true edges & center, since there are places a quilt would have less, or more stitching and affect the sides. Thanks for the idea, though. Rita
Mrs.A
I use the 90 degree to block my quilted (but not yet bound) quilts.
clover_enge
Thank you everyone for responses. I'm going to get that 90 degree level and see how it goes. Nancy
JustSewSimple
I actually do use mine. I sorta agree with Jim that it is a bit iffy sometimes. But I got a small metal plate and I make sure my long lines are straight as I roll the quilt. Works pretty well. I also use it with blocking.
