Linda Gaudet
I am as always looking forward to the Houston quilt show this year. Is there going to be any classes from APQS for George owners? I noticed last year there were classes for APQS but nothing for us George owners. I noticed some competitors had lots of classes for sit down model owners and was hoping APQS would do the same for George owners. Any word? Mrs.A
Gee, Linda. I'm sorry that no one from APQS has responded to your query. George has been present in the APQS booth every year but I don't believe anyone teaches classes on the machine. Is it information on the machine itself that you are looking for, or help with sit down, push through quilting? Maybe we could help you here on the forum? Neher-in-law5
It would be nice to have some classes in some of the techniques used with George. How to keep the tension good through out the whole quilting process as you quilt a large project. How to work with rulers or other tools with George. Some of the maintenance and care for him. Even if some of the info is so similar to the frame machines, if you had a room of George only quilters the ideas and methods each would have used would be valuable for each in the room. When you mainly have a class for frame quilters and one or two sitdown quilters there isn't always ideas and methods that fit the process used with the sitdown machine. The minds just work differently in my opinion.
Neher-in-law5
Nancy, maybe you need to host a class in your area during the winter so some of us can come out of the cold!!! It is a nice dream sometimes.
Joyful
I too would love to see some classes focused on George. I'm going to Houston in 2015, and am hoping that APQS will follow Handi Quilters lead and have a classroom of Georges.
ffq-lar
Demand will increase for mid-arm sit-down machines as you notice the new models that the big-name DSM manufacturers are coming out with. As you wait for the big machine quilting shows to catch up, please look online for tutorials and DVDs put out by the talented push-through quilters. Those that instantly come to my mind are Leah Day, Cindy Needham, and Sue Heinz. All three generously share their techniques and designs, and have many types of publications available. You can read/watch over and over again. Also look on Craftsy for quilting classes geared toward sit-downs. There's a sale on classes now, that Teresa shared with us recently. shirleyl
Also I have taken Longarm classes on various brands and 99% of the stuff learned works on my machine. So unless it it just a maintenance class, take all you can. It is all knowledge. Shirley
Corey
I was introduced to Beth Schillig, award winning artist & George dealer who lives in Columbus, Ohio. Give her a call, she might be able to help find good George specialists.
