Minke poking through

Help has anyone had success in using. Minkee for a backing and not have to poke through. I have a mostly white quilt and want red minkee on the back. I have one layer of silk batting and one later of warm and natural white. Thought with the 2 layers I could get away with it. Anyone have any tips or pointers or do I just start again with a different backing (I really want the red as it's a Christmas quilt)

I've had the Minkee (or Minkee-ish) backings poke through the needle hole, but I've not worried about it - I've always coordinated with the quilt top fabrics.  You might try a small practice piece: quilt it and run it through the dryer to see if the minkee fibers will go back to their proper side.

I've not had problems with this before, even with just top fabric and no batting.

Maybe make a sample of the layers you want to use and do some stitching. If there is Minkee coming through, perhaps line the Minkee with some cotton fabric--backer/fabric/battings, in that order. Then see if it continues with the lining as a barrier.

I back with minkee all the time and have never had this problem, even the shaggy stuff.

I just finished a quilt with Minkee and was having the same problem with the back fibers pulling thru to the front.  I was curious if others were having the same issues.

 

I used one layer of Quilters Dream Request Poly (the thinnest poly) and various threads on top, bottom line on the bottom.  Not sure if a different batting would make a difference.  I would have thought Janet's two layers of batting might be enough to hide the fibers.

 

It just came from the county fair (1st place!) and the judge didn't say anything about it.  Probably wouldn't fly in a tougher competition though.

 

As Barb mentions maybe it won't be noticeable once its been thru the dryer.
