2012 APQS 1930's Block Swap

Recommended Posts

Congratulations to all those ladies who sent me a block for this swap in January 2012.

I had made my quilt into a top in 2013 during a quilt retreat and put it away as the theme for my Queensland Quilters Inc show this year was "One Block".

I quilted the quilt in January this year and entered into our state Royal Agricultural Show.  It came second in its category but has taken out the Best Machine Quilting Award.

My very first Best of Award.

So thank you to all the participants for helping me to make this happen.

Process to make this.

The half square triangles (sawtooth borders) are all the offcuts from making the blocks.  I had seen quilts on forums with the close together lines and thought  they would go well with the half square triangles.

The centre s curve with circles inside and feathers outside I have played with this on quilts to get it perfect.  I am still in the process of designing a template that will make the inside area smaller still.

The design in the Japanese crosses was  just straight lines and it didn't work so out with the trusty ripper.......  and the double bubbles worked

Outside small feathered wreaths I tried to use the smallest Nautilus feathered tool but it was too big so ended up drawing my own circles with air erasable pen.  in January in Qld it is humid so it was marked as I quilted.

The smaller orange peel double stitched - I had just finished reading Judi Madsen's Quilting Wide Open spaces so they were inspired by that.

Thank you for all your nice comments it is this forum and the swap participants that helped it to happen.
