jimerickson
I'm interested in buying an Accuquilt Studio fabric cutter. Also interested in the strip cutting dies for it. Let me know what you have, and how much you want for it. Thanks. Jim
Sue E.
Jim, AccuQuilt is constantly putting the Studio on sale. They recently had a sale but the end of November, the beginning of December, is another time they have had sales. Keep your eyes on their website. LauraSews
Accucut (www.accucut.com) is a sister company of accuquilt. The GrandeMark cutter is the same as the studio except for the decal. You might want to check there for the sale price, too. Right now it is also $595 but goes on sale for $395. jimerickson
I've been checking the Accuquilt website every day for a couple of weeks now, and this evening I see the Studio is on sale for $395. I guess I better order one quick since it doesn't appear anyone wants to part with theirs. Thanks for the thoughts and info you all have provided. jimerickson
Well, I just placed my order. I bought the Studio package with the 3 strip cutting dies, plus 3 additional strip dies. Spent over $1000. Ya'll had better have given me good advise LOL! The 3 dies that came in the package were five and six strip dies, and the ones I added were 4, 4, and 3. BTW the dies were on sale at 40% off too. I hope my wife likes her Christmas gift. Marti10245
Jim, I'm sure your wife will really like her Christmas gift. I have been looking at the Brother cut/scan machine. I like the way it can scan any shapes and cut them out with out having to buy the dies. When I get it I will let you know how I like it. I was looking at the accuquilt they look like a nice set up. I think I am going to have to buy my own lol I don't think Santa is going to get leave me one under my tree Have a nice day , Marti
JeannieB
Hummmmm...My husband doesnt want one for his birthday or christmas...maybe our annivesary? LOL! i'm...i mean HE's still leaning toward electric.
jimerickson
Marti: Make sure you thoroughly test the Brother machine out before you buy It will only cut one thickness of fabric. We tested it, and decided that it would be neither fast enough nor robust enough for our purpose. Jim
Oma
You and your wife are going to love your Studio Cutter. You definitely made the right decision. I found the table for mine cheaper than at AccuQuilt. Almost 50% cheaper and it's a great cabinet. You have to have the space for it though. Remember that they will also make custom dies and they offer a discount at times on those too.
jimerickson
Oma: I shudder to think how much you've got invested in dies! LOL You've got a really big collection. Thanks for the advice, and the cabinet photos. Jim
Oma
I do Jim, but almost every one of them was bought on sale so it's not as bad as it looks and I've done it over time so it didn't hurt quite as much. I use them all the time. They have saved me so much time and effort. Worth every penny!
Sue E.
Jim, your wife will love her new Studio. I have the Go! Baby, the Go!, the Studio, and I am getting the Go! Big. I teach classes specializing in the Go! products so I need all of them to demo and show what they can do. I mostly use the Studio for my own use. Be sure to get the Go! adapters for the Studio and then your wife will be able to use Go! dies which are quite a bit cheaper. There are several Go! dies that have better layouts and better use of fabric than the Studio dies. The only difference is that using the Go! dies you can only cut a maximum of 6 layers of fabric whereas with the Studio you can cut up to 10 layers of fabric. I have not found this a problem at all. WandaGerdes
I'm jealous. Lucky wife!! I've been wanting the studio even before I got the Go.
Bonnie H
Lucky you, Jim!! Be sure to remind your wife you need some special treatment for the amazing gift!! I love my Go strip dies. I'm sure the Studio's are even that much better. Another die I love, but they don't work the greatest for me (I have the Go Cutter), are the triangle dies. They make piecing much more accurate because everything is so exact.
Sue E.
Bonnie, what kind of problem do you have with the triangle dies? Maybe I can help you figure out what might be the problem. I love my triangle dies. Actually, I love all my dies!
Bonnie H
Hi Sue, I posted about it a while ago and have come to some resolution of sorts. The metal points of the dies "eat" the fabric -- meaning the fabric gets stuck down in the points when cutting fabric. I do have the little pick that helps to get it out, but I get runs or pulls in the fabric and have to throw the piece out. I've resorted to using a few layers of paper on the die and the plastic cutting sheet and using at least four layers of fabric instead of just a layer or two. That does seem to help but still is not 100% perfect. This happens with a new plastic cutting sheet, too. I'm all ears for tips or any insight!! A quick look on the Internet didn't find it...
Oma
Dave, I ordered mine through a special Hayneedle was having so I got a sale price and free shipping which AccuQuilt did not offer at the time and no sales tax. I know you're already spoiled because Oregon doesn't have a sales tax, but that saved me another 8.7%. The cabinet is called a Kangaroo Wombat Embroidery Cabinet. Right now they are $70 cheaper than AccuQuilt and free shipping. AccuQuilt has a free shipping rate going on for a few more days. Keep looking you'll find a good price. I don't have a business license, but if you do then you may get even a bigger discount. I also had to assemble mine, but it was pretty easy. It's a really nice heavy cabinet and works perfect for my dies.
