Questions about the New Millie

Recommended Posts

I was looking around the APQS site to try and find a picture of the buttons on the new Millie and what each one does.  I couldn't find it - there's a picture but no real description of each buttons function.   Can someone point me in the right direction as to where this is located?  I'm assuming there's a description somewhere of each button and it's function, etc.

I actually like having the controls on my handlebars as I don't have to look up for them or take my hands off the bars in order to select different options.  I'm so used to using them I don't even look when I'm making changes - it just comes automatically.  I'm concerned that with the new Millie you have to remove at least one hand from the handlebar and look at the buttons in order to select a change.   Is this a valid concern and how easy was it to make this change.  I'm a newbie so removing my hands from the handlebar when quilting is a big deal as it affects the quilting.  Also, are other machines going to the button type also?

I"m also wondering if the white paint has a coating on it so it doesn't scratch up.   I usually set magnetic pin holders on the bars of my machine and put my scissors and clippers over the front laser bar - things like that.  I don't get any scratches on my current machine or rollers bars by doing this however white appears to be a color that would show every little nick however if there's a good coating maybe that's not the case.

I'm trying to get a better picture of how this machine compares to my older 2005 Millie and what I can expect.  I try to take really good care of my sewing machines so want to understand the ins and outs up front from the customer perspective.

Thanks!

HI,

See no one has answered.  I have a couple of years old Lucey.....I did get a CD with it and it had the manual on it.  I printed out a bunch of the manual...if you got a CD maybe look on that and see if there is a manual on it.  otherwise...maybe call APQS and see if they can email you something.  I have the white frame with Lucey....I use a magnetic dish on the rollers and so far so good...but I usually just set it on top of the leaders.  There is one spot on the head that the paint did start to come off of and that was underneath one of the guide screws above the spool holder.  Lucey only has one button on each handle and to turn stitch regulation on and off,  I just push the stop button...reach over to the head and flip the switch....to change speed or stitch length...it works the same...just stop with the needle down and reach over...I haven't ever used the multi buttons on a Millie so really can't compare...Lin

Mercedes, I will post the "Using the new controls" document - that should answer your questions on the new controls.

As to whether it's more complicated to use the new controls, I have to confess that I was worried about that when I upgraded to the newer controls, but it hasn't been the case at all.  It's rare that I have to make any changes while I am stitching, so having the majority of the controls on the machine face isn't an issue.  The only thing I miss on the handlebars is the channel lock.  And I'll trade handlebar access to channel locks for default-on stitch regulator any time!!

I service and train on all the APQS machines, so I have to bounce back and forth between handlebar controls and face controls.  For new users, the new controls are definitely easier to grasp.  But for those of us who have spent any time using the handlebar controls, it comes naturally, just like you said.
