APQS changes???

Recommended Posts

I keep seeing teasers for big changes coming soon to APQS machines, and now is the time to upgrade.  Does anybody know what the big changes are?  I am hoping to upgrade to a larger machine sometime in 2015, but I don't want to do that if I can hold off until the end of the year and get something really great, instead of just good.

Except for the obvious modifications for a longer throat size--extended head/wiring and wider-apart rollers on a modified frame--I imagine there isn't much difference mechanically and electronically between a Millie and a "Godzillie".

I just made that name up!   :D  Great name for a "monster machine".

So why not? Perfect for computer-guided because no one could reach across that span to quilt! But you could still add custom touches of freehand if you wanted.

I was going to ask what on earth someone might do with a throat larger than 26"!  But that answers my question!  I never thought about how it might be an advantage if you have a computer set up.

I've not seen anything either. I'm curious now as well. Besides bigger throat, I can't think of anything to add. Unless it is the endless bobbin lol. My hubby asked me once why isn't there a way to put a whole cone underneath for the bobbin instead. I told him apparently it can't be done no one has done it lol.

It's been done, do a search for a National two spool sewing machine.  Here is a video of one.

I suspect that a current M bobbin holds almost a much thread as that old wooden spool though.

Ty Nigel! I've never seen that machine before. I want one now lol. I wonder why that's never caught on?

It probably worked for the slow speed of the domestic machine.  I am sure you would have all kinds of tension issues when changing speeds and controlling the backlash.

Thank you for posting that video, Nigel!  I'll have to show it to my hubby - he's one of those folks who thinks we should be able to use a cone for bobbin thread, as well.  The problem is that our top thread has to go completely around the outside of our bobbin - just like it does around the "mini-spool" in the video.  The amount of thread necessary to go all the way around a cone (of any size!) of thread would make for just the tension issues you mentioned, Nigel!!  So don't count on that happening anytime soon.....

And yes, the first-coming change for APQS machines is indeed a price increase.  We haven't been told of any more major changes, but ya never know!
