comparing machines

Recommended Posts

Hi Teresa,

I just bought an 09 Millie from APQS last month and went through the same process.  Besides looking at the chart which is a good starting point; calling APQS and talking with them or contacting any of the dealers is helpful to help you figure out what the older machines do/do not have compared to the new ones (LED lighting is one thing that changed) and what machines are available. Sometimes as in our case, an older one comes in that hasn't even made the list yet.

Good luck and enjoy the hunt :-)

I have a 2008 Millie.  It was the first year with the LED lighting and the on/off switch in the centre of the machine rather than at the back.  It has motorized fabric advance, electronic channel locks and thread cutter.  I think that Quilt Glide was available beginning in 2009 because I just missed out on that one!

One major difference between the Lucey and the Freedom will be the table.  The Millie and Freedom tables will be more robust and can accommodate the motorized advance.  I think the standard Lucey table is still much better than your old Lenni table and  better than my square tube Ultimate 1 table as far as getting all the rollers parallel and level.

Lucey is $12400. Cannot add quilt glide. Table has smaller diameter rollers, no fabric advance. Pre 2013 Millie/freedoms have 4 button mushroom handles with all functions activated on handles. 2013 & newer "new Gen" machines have touch control panel on front of head and single push button handles. Lucey has similar single push button handles. No electronic channel locks on Lucey or freedom.

Can upgrade Lucey table for Millie table for additional $2000. Fabric advance can then be added for another $1350. Hope this helps!

Thanks Vickie.  I found a 2010 Mille with a Bliss table for $10,000.  I'm not sure if thats a good price or not. It seems like a good price, but it was commercially used, so it may have a million hours on it.

I'm just playing with dollar amounts in my head right now, trying to figure out what I can sell, trade, etc. to upgrade to a larger machine with a Bliss table.  I'm not worried about fabric advance, but if it was already with the machine I wouldn't turn it down.

I am thinking the Millennium has both vertical and horizontal channel lock buttons on the handles along with the bobbin thread cutter and Freedom does not; I think it has one manual lock for stitching horizontally? I am not 100% sure on the year models and their extras but those are the two features that come to mind when I shopped.

It would be wonderful if a dealer or someone at APQS could post a comprehensive list of "standard equipment" for each generation of the models. This would make it easy for someone unfamiliar with the different models and older machines.

Like --Millennium 2000 to 200?-- silver body, black frame, h & v channel locks, SR, Laser, fluorescent light bar, blah blah blah. Then when the changes come--Millennium 200? to present--white body, white frame, LED lights, quilt glide blah blah blah.

And do the same for the Ultimate, discontinued models, different iterations of the Lenni frames, etc. It's so confusing sometimes and while machine seekers can always ask questions of the seller, it would be nice to have an overall view of standards. Also, a complete description of the differences in the rail systems (vertical wheels, horizontal and Bliss rails) would be helpful. Any knowledgeable dealer want to take this on and would APQS make it accessible on the site?  B)
