Input

So I could use some input on a few things and everyone here has always been so helpful.

When you are quilting doing mostly freehand do you start at the top on one side and work across and down? Doing that I don't get creases in my quilt but it's kind of a pain stopping a border and going to another area.

I've got a few pantographs I'd like to try but I'm not sure I have all I need. I have the mounting bolt on the side of my machine head and this metal Pen looking thing but no laser. Problem is the pen gets caught on the paper and table when going certain directions. Can I get this to work or do I need to purchase the laser setup? Also do I need the plastic cover to go over the pantographs?

How long are the leaders usually. I know the width is close to my 10 foot table. The leaders that are currently on the table are about 6" for the back roller and maybe 12" for the front two rollers. I wanted to put leader grips on my table but don't have pockets to slide them into and the back especially is to short to make pockets. So I bought new leaders and they seem huge. Like nearly 24" each and still no pockets to slide the leader grips into. Should I just sew pockets? And I'm guessing that if I don't get them straight it could mess up the squareness or straightness of my quilts.

Thanks in advance. I keep hoping I get this all figured out.

Batty:  I made my own leaders five years ago when I first bought Zelda.  I bought 2 pieces of canvas 4 yards long.. one 60", the other 48".  I cut the 60" piece into half (30"), and mounted each on the backing and top roller.  I took the 48" piece and mounted it on the take-up roller.  They might seem long, but I can sit and pin without having to reach a long way because I have so much leader to roll out.  I don't have so much leader on the take-up roller of my Gammill, and it's more of a pain to pin on to it.  Jim

I have a laser light kit to add on to a machine like yours that I don't use now.  Are you interested?  I will look back to see how much I paid for it and come with a price if you are.

Carol

Hi Carol, yes I would be interested.

I figured out the plastic for over the pantographs too. Since there is no Walmart or fabric store anywhere near by I found it at fabric.com.
