Needle tip jammed in hook assembly

Recommended Posts

I had a needle break in Millie and the tip of it is lodged in the bobbin basket. I have removed the hook assembly and cannot grasp the needle with anything to remove the tip. The inner basket won't budge.

I've seen several posts that allude to how to remove the hook guard, to remove a jammed needle tip, but I don't see anything that shows specifically how to do it. I even saw an old post that had a link to where "Kay in Scotland" went through the process....unfortunately, the link is no longer any good.

I have attempted to attach a photo - hope it works!

oh my...don't really know how to remove basket....don't want to scratch it....ummmm....maybe try one of those little small tipped magnet wands?  Don't know if it would be strong enough or small enough.....do you have one of those hemostat things...like a needle noised pliers only smaller?  would putting some WD40 on it help?  It is so frustrating when things get stuck....I broke a needle and it shattered and pieces fell onto the quilt and I had to use the skinny wand magnet to fish the pieces out of the batting....and one time I used it fish a pin left in a quilting channel...glad I didn't have to ripe out the stitches on that one...good luck...someone will probably pip in here who has more experience and knowledge...Lin

You can remove the screw(s) on the outside of the hook assembly and the guard will come off and then you should be able to get the basket out. I am away from home so I am not sure how many screws are holing it in. Remove the screws over a towel so when you drop them you don't lose them they are tiny.

Oh Michele....just had the same thing happen. I had to loosen or remove the screws from the hook assembly to get it out. Nothing else worked. It also bent the hook retaining finger. I had to replace that, the hook assembly and retime my Millie. Took me a week to get the parts from APQS. Was down for a whole week. Good luck
