In Minnesota and looking to purchase a used or floor model sit down quilting machine. My wish list includes:

Recommended Posts

1 )a really great stitch (with a thread like King Tut) and even tension.  2) as much harp space as possible - I need to be able to easily handle a queen or king size.  (I have fibromyalgia and chronic lymes so I need to be nice to my body!)  3) I don't need a fancy table, but I do think I would like to be orientated (seated) at the head of the machine - not like a regular sewing machine.  I think I can live without a stitch regulator - although if there is a built in one that would be ok (I suspect my budget would be better matched without one.)  I really like fairly simple and I don't have to have the 'latest and greatest'.  I would rather have consistent and reliable.  I have only recently begun to research these and am finding it hard to locate places to try them out. I am a bit concerned about getting dealer service if and when I might need it.  Last but not least, I am on a fixed income and have a rather 'slim' budget - would love to find something around $3,000, but understand that this is likely on the low end of the spectrum.  I may have to be patient!  Thanks!

It looks like this may be your new baby;  http://forum.apqs.com/index.php?/topic/39719-george-for-sale-wtable-light-3500/

George is a great sit-down model.  You can "Fluff and Stuff" a king size quilt through his throat.  While the table is set up for sitting sidesaddle like your DSM, you could probably have a table made to sit facing the head.  It might open up your visibility a bit and I have considered it, in the end do not consider it a big deal.  You are more than likely only going to be working in a 8x8, 10x10, hand spread area at a time, so you can see more than well enough to make your stitches.

It has been up for awhile, so maybe you can work a deal.  Best of luck to you.

My George is now at o2bquilting (Lucy Drinkall, dealer) in Spring Valley.  George was a great machine for me, never had any issues and could run King Tut down to Rainbows, So Fine and other fine threads.  I quilted our king sized quilt on him as well as a number of queen sized.  He is a 2007 model.  I hope you find the one that works for you.

Thanks!  I will have to check this out!  I did locate a dealer near to the cities, but I know she doesn't have a physical 'shop' per se, so I am going to try to call her to see if she has a machine to try.  I really like the reputation of this machine, and the 20" of space.  I would like it even better if I could work from facing the head of the machine.  I think that would be easiest on my body with my Fibro and Lymes issues.  Would like to find out if there is any mechanism that would interfere with reconfiguring the table to accomodate that....perhaps where ever I try it out I can find out.  I think I will call down to the shop in Spring Valley to check this out.  Thanks for your response!
