Lucy/Liberty

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I am new but I've been following for quite awhile now.  I am finally ready to get a machine (probably a used one) and really like the APQS Lucy.  Is the Liberty the old version of Lucy?  Any opinions on buy one that is 10 years old? I am going to the AQS show in Phoenix on Friday and am going to test the machines one more time to make sure.  Also I am only 5' so would I really be able to utilize the throat space on Lucy or is Lenni a better idea.  Any opions would help???

I have a Lenni and love her - BUT am limited by the throat space. The Lucy comes with the ergonomic handles, so reaching the full width of quiltable space won't be a problem. Just adjust the table height to your liking and off you go. I have my table set a bit low. I can't stand for long periods, so I have a tall saddle stool. Just a quick lift and I'm ready to free motion and the lowest level is perfect for sitting while doing a pantograph. Happy shopping!

The Liberty was a loaded machine with a 20 inch throat, think of Lenni with electronic channel locks.  I wouldn't hesitate to buy a 10 year old or more from APQS  http://www.apqs.com/quilting-machines-used/.  The machine may have a few cosmetic marks but will perform the same as when it was new.  They also come with warranty.  The new deluxe table is much better than the old square tube tables from the early Millennium.  Add Bliss and you will have a machine that be a real treat to use.

I'm another 5'er!  So my table doesn't adjust because the lift would had more height to the table.  The ergonomic handles on Lucey are able to be adjusted a bit higher and lower so you can get some changes in personal position.

If you have the space and the finances Lucey would be great to have.  I have a friend much taller than me that loves her Lenni.  I guess the choice is to get the machine that you like and decide that you love it and wouldn't trade for another.

HI,

I have a Lucey and I am 5' 3".  I like the big neck space especially when I am doing a large quilt with an all over design....but when I do some things...it is really easier to just use the front part as I find it easier to control.....also if I am SIDing, it is nice to have the big spaces....so...I think it depends on what you work on and what you want to do....I am glad I have the bigger space....fewer advances needed....and if I want to only work toward the belly bar, I just don't advance the quilt as far....Lin

Thanks for all the feedback, I will be keeping an out for a good deal when I get back from the Quilt Show in Phoenix.  I want to play with the APQS machines one more time before I make a move.  Sounds like being "short" doesn't really make a difference so I think I can drop that concern....definitely entering the contest.....
