Bonnie in Ok
I am looking for quilt ideas. I have about fifty dress shirts that have initials on the one side of shirt collar and I want to put them in a quilt, also using the rest of the shirt. This is a request from a widow. Has anyone done this before or have any design ideas?
T Row Studio
Can you use the point of the collars like Prairie points on the edge or somewhere in the quilt as an interest area?
Bonnie in Ok
Yes do you have a particular pattern in mind?
T Row Studio
Not really Bonnie but any patchwork pattern you could use the shirt fabric for pick a co-ordinating fabric to pull it all together and start designing...I know that is not what you wanted to hear maybe somebody has a suggestion for you
Bonnie in Ok
Thanks for the input. I kind of figured I would have to come up with the design. LOL just hoping for an easy way out.
Neher-in-law5
How many shirt points do you have available? Will they fit around a special block (center or label) as prairie points? Maybe use some of the shirt fabric to have embroidered into that special block.
Mattie-Sue
Bonnie Hunter has patterns on her sight to use old shirts. Some patterns are free others available for download and of course she has books with patterns. Maybe you could get some ideas there.
Cagey
Could you take two shirt collars and make them into half square triangles, and work those into a 9 patch, 4 patch or some other patch block? I cannot think of the name of the block/pattern but I know there is one. You sewed three 2.5 inch stripes together, and then used the special ruler to cut triangle shapes that you can sew together into numerous different patterns. It might look unique with initials spaced throughout the design. Cagey
Zora
There is a quilt block that is shirts. If I recall, the block uses the front of the shirt with the buttons and button holes and part of the collar, and actually looks like folded shirts. Bonnie in Ok
Thanks for all the suggestions just keep them coming. My main obstacle is how to get the collar into the quilt. Most of the collars are button down so opening them isn't going to be easy.
Cagey
Talks about the difficulty with the collars; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LlLBr9V1Y4 Not what you want, but a lot easier without using the collars and cuffs; http://thethriftyquilter.blogspot.com/2009/06/seven-shirts-seven-steps-one-thrifty.html Cagey

Cagey
Here is a picture of how they put collars in their quilt tops; https://www.toocooltshirtquilts.com/blog/collars-and-necklines-in-t-shirt-quilts Maybe you could contact them, and ask if they could make a quilt with numerous dress shirt collars included, and ask for some pictures of same.
