Acceptable payments

Jeanne, with a private seller, I would think cash or certified funds (money order, cashier's check, or certified check) would be the standard.  I doubt a private seller would want to offer financing.

As far as APQS is concerned, you would have to ask them, as I don't know if they offer financing or not.

Jeanne:

When I purchased from a dealer that was selling something here I wanted, they told me they have never had a quilters personal check bounce.  They were getting out of the business and no longer had a credit card account, so the item and my check crossed paths in the mail.

I on the other hand am less trustworthy (probably a bad trait), so if I were selling something to a person I did not know, I would deposit the check and wait the 3 to 5 business days for it to clear their bank before mailing out the item.  It protects you, and the buyer in my opinion.  Though it does slow down when the buyer gets the item.  I have no problem waiting when I am buying the item.

You can set up a PayPal account if you are going to do multiple purchases or sales, which makes the process instantaneous, and protects both parties.  If you use Chase, Bank of America, or a larger bank, you can deposit or have funds deposited directly into your account, without giving out your account number by setting it up with the bank.  More and more young computer literate people are sharing money this way.  Again, I am not completely trusting of this method, though I have used it with extended family members.

If it is being sold in person, there is no reason to not just use cash.  Though do meet in a public area and have a someone go with you to ensure your safety if you are meeting someone.  I tend to believe crooks are not troll quilting forums looking for easy marks to rob.  Just be careful, and carry some extra batting.  You can never be too safe.
