EHonour
When I first posted here in June, I was looking for help on some backgrounds for this lap-size flower quilt. It's now completed, and I used some of the ideas, particularly the horizontal "watery" meander idea from Jennifer Bernard and Betty Ann. Thank you! But I also came up with some of my own, too. The main panel has outlines around all the main flowers and leaves, with a swirl pattern in the background. And (my wife Beth's idea) a hummingbird. That was fun! By the way, I have to give credit to Myra Nickolaus for the design. She owns the Stitcher's Garden shop here in Franklin, TN, with more variety of fabric than Hancock's of Paducah! Now I'm off this weekend to a couple of classes with Angela Huffman in Louisville. Hope to learn more.

LibbyG
Eric, that's an ambitious project. The hummingbird is a perfect touch for the block as it really makes you look closely at your quilting. I still match thread colors and noticed you were brave to use yellow thread on the orange border. Good for you!

EHonour
Libby, actually I'm still learning how to best use thread colors. Mostly, I have simply picked one color for the quilt and used it throughout. This one, I experimented with two colors and it broadened my ideas. Today I was in Hancock's of Paducah and saw a quilt where they used three different BOBBIN colors on the back to define different areas. It was marvelous, and opened my mind even more.
