  1. Vintage Linen,......

Hi Jim,.... thanks for the info,.... Will see how this piece holds up,... working on Framing it today,....
  2. Vintage Linen,......

Hi Cagey,.... I really liked working with the Foam Lining,.... It gave the piece nice texture and will work perfect for Framing,..... yes,... the piece was already scalloped on the edges,.... took about 1- 1 1/2 hrs from start to finish,... Thanks for looking,.....
  3. Vintage Linen,......

Hi Lisae,.... I did not mark this piece,... this piece only measures @ 12" x 17" so I just followed the design in the piece,... Used freehand straighline for the outer border,... In the body of the piece,... I wanted a focus,... so used a curved ruler to make the Double Pinched Square,... which left me with the area for the rolling feathers,.... Decided to stipple the background to really make the feathers Pop! then did the Feather motif in the Center,.... and instead of stippling the background,... decided to go with pebbles for something different,.... In total,... it took about 1-1 1/2 hrs from start to complete,....
  4. Needed to take a break and do something for me,... so loaded this little linen last night and played,... I tried a couple new things to see how it would turn out,..... Layered the piece on silk to see how it would play together and I really liked the framing effect,... then, instead of Batting,... I used the the foam liner,... I believe it is called Bosal Foam or Soft and Stable Foam (The stuff used to line bags and purses} Wanted to see how my Milli would handle it and I was pleased with the results... It gave the piece some defined texture,... but was not bulky in any way,.... Did not have to adjust tension and it quilted super easy,...... I think I am going to be working with this stuff a lot in the future!..... I am attaching a couple pics of the piece,... and one of the back,..... I used a black cloth for the back,... Just a piece I had in a pile of linens,... the black came off on my hands as I handled the piece,.... and it changed the color of my Thread,... I used Glide,... in White,... but it stitched almost a pale grey blue,.... I like how it played with the piece,... so just kept stitching,..... Sometimes it is just fun to PLAY and try new things,..... Always something new to learn!!! Thanks for looking,...... Happy Quilting,.... Laura
  5. Oh My Goodness,....... I LOVE him!!!! Such a cool design,...... Can't wait to see him finished!!!!!!! AWESOME!!!!!!
  6. Embroidered Applique,......

Thanks for the kind words!! Started in on her next quilt,..... Silk Hearts!!!! In Jewel Tones,..... will be making multiple Thread changes,... but cant wait to see how it turns out,.....
  7. Wow!!! I just LOVE this Customer Quilt!!!! It is a smaller wallhanging,... but boy does it pack a Punch!!! The COLOR! {my Favorite} The Embroidery {Wow! Just Wow!!} I used a double layer of Quilters Dream Wool to give it a nice loft. Then of Course,... Glide Thread in Prickly Pear and Cerulean,.... I kinda plan as I go,... so let this one just speak to me. I knew I wanted to break up the space to really add some texture Of course,... I had to throw in some featherwork! Continuous Curve in the Turquoise squares,.... Pebbling,.. Stippling, and McTavishing,... Oh,... and continuous straight line work in the outer border to frame out the whole piece!!! Will be shipping this one back home to Florida,... Like they say on Flip or Flop,.... Time to start a new project!!!!
  8. Welcome to the World, Landon and Scarlet!!! Congratulations Heidi!! Such Precious Little Ones. Please tell Momma and Family that Love and Support are being sent from all over!!! Special Prayers covering your whole Family......
  9. Glide magna bobbins

If you have a local source for Glide! threads,... I would ask if they carry the bobbins as well,... or,.. If they would be willing to order in for you,.... If not,... You can find an online retailer that carries Fil-tec and order from them..... I purchase mine from Myrna Ficken at www.aquilterschoice.com Hope this helps,..... Have a great day,... Laura
  10. Glide magna bobbins

The Classics are wound with Bobbin Line thread,.... yes,.. it is thinner,.... I make a quick adjustment on the top tension for Selected top thread,... and start quilting,.... the Bobbin thread just melts into the backing fabric,..... I believe you get a consistent 127 yds on each "L" bobbin,.... Not sure on the "M" bobbins,....
  11. Glide magna bobbins

I use Magna Classics Exclusively,..... No matter what top thread I use,....... LOVE THEM,.... and these are the only colors I ever use,...... always blend,.... Never have to worry,.....
  12. Thanks All,.... I was not sure how this one would turn out as it was on the Frame as I was deciding on designs,.... so pulling it off the frame was Highly anticipated!!! The feathers worked perfectly to fill in the open spaces,... they block seams made for perfect spines to follow,.... and Heidi,.... I agree,... the dresdans look like Tuffets to me as well!! Hi David,... I will try to get a full photo and post later today,..... Liam,... get it out and play,.... I use it to lay out the ground work on many of my custom quilts,... great for adding another layer of design,... it takes some practice,... Myrna Ficken has a great handbook on how to use it,... I believe a DVD as well,... Check out her Website, www.aquilterschoice.com It truly is one of my favorite tools in my studio!! Hi Diane,.... You can look into the Hartley Fence as well as the Perfect Circle Maker,.... You can talk to your local APQS REP to order, or contact APQS directly,.... I LOVE my Hartley Fence,.... Diane,.. I have used both and Like them equally!!! Wool Is my go too Batting for custom work,... It Quilts up beautifully and really makes the designs POP!!! Great Loft in Both,... and have found both to have Excellent Quality,..... Try them both and see which one you like best,....
  13. Have I mentioned how much I LOVE the Hartley Fence!!!! It is perfect for laying out the groundwork for Custom Quilting!!! Perfect Circles every time!!!! I use it often when trying to add another layer of design. I took this quilt with some plain open space and just added Circles around the Dresdan Plates By simply adding the Arcs on the outer rings,... It gave this piece a border as well as new space to fill between the rings in the center!!!! Some Feathers,... Straight line work,.. Stipple and Curly Cues and this quilt went from everyday to WOW!!!! I used 1 layer of Quilters Dream Wool to make the design pop (I LOVE Quilters Dream Wool!!) and of course,... Glide! thread from Fil-Tec Thanks for looking!!! Love the layers of this quilt,.... the mixture of simple designs and formal feathers really made this quilt come alive!! and a view of the Back,......
  14. Feathers on Silk,.....

Hi all,... Have been away from the computer for a while,... Thanks for all your kind comments,.... I did not mark this quilt as the customer said,.. no Marking,.... Not sure how chalk would work,... will have to try it out and see what happens,.... Sherri,... I actually used Glide! Split Pea,..... It is one of my go to threads,.... and I used Light Tan Magna Classic in the Bobbin.... Customer loved it,.....
  15. First time stitching on Silk,... wasn't too bad,.... My customer said she wanted feathers,..... the challenge was not being able to mark the spines,.... so I cut out the shape from paper and just laid on the quilt top,,, when I started stitching,... I would move paper and stitch in design,... worked well,.... and placement was pretty good,..... Used silk batting too.... Cotton backing,.... and Glide thread,....
