Robin,
Mary Beth's FB group is a great one to join. There's lots of eye candy to look at and of course Mary Beth's wonderful personality.

I really like this forum. I have learned so much from all of you and continue to learn! I have been frustrated with yahoo forums due to them getting hacked so much, so am a little leery of those. I got started on FB before an all school reunion and it is great to get in touch with old friends, but it can be overwhelming to keep up with. I really do enjoy the specific FB forums I have joined. Am kind of re-obsessed with Singer Featherweights, (I'm currently experiencing a second Featherweight frenzy), and I check in with an IQ FB forum quite often. It's almost too much, all of the information out there now. Mary Beth, I'll be checking out your page!

I may be the odd one but I like both. I have been on this forum since 2010 and have learned SO much from everyone here. I know I'm a better quilter because of this forum. The support is awesome. Although I have had a hard time with this format since it changed and have really not used it as much as I use to. Probably more my lack of tech ability than anything else. The "I Love APQS" FB page is the only quilting group I'm a part of on FB. I've gotten help and shard pictures there. I've learned if I just leave it on that page, the posts there are the only thing I see.

Well, as you know I have a FB page, Quilting with Mary Beth. I like FB, but I think I liked the forum when we all use to be here. No offense to anyone here now, it just use to be hopping, it is very quiet in comparison. Some of the FB pages make me crazy and I leave them because of it. I hate it when the "leader" of the page releases a BOM and 40,000 people ask when will it start? where can I find the patterns? am I too late? Or if someone asks a question or needs help, 73 people post the same answer. No one reads the posts. It is like a feeding frenzy. That being said, it is nice that there is a broader audience. You see more quilters work, etc. The one thing the really makes me mad on FB is to have the dealer of a particular LA company disrespect quilters with another brand. Such bad taste. The two quilters that did this are way up on the food chain. If I had just been here on the forum, I would have never read what they said....and would have continued to buy their products. When that happened I deleted them from my FB friends list.

The amount of cluttered information on FB is just overwhelming, and if there is a good search function I haven't found it yet either. I have issues with FB in general. When I signed up years ago, it was a fun place to keep track of what your friends were doing. Now they are just showing you posts from people who pay for it. This is a little exaggerated but mostly accurate. And since I created a page for my business I have been inundated with emails by FB urging me to promote my posts by paying them. My page has more than 100 followers, and if I don't pay maybe 30 people get to see my posts, if I am lucky. So yeah, I stay away from FB as much as I can and come here for help and company.

I have actually learned to count forward and backward on my fingers, when I go through that process then I go for the toes.

Being a southerner I was taught you can use your toes when you run out of fingers. Though it does get hard with number larger than 20, or if you lost a finger or toe like Uncle Mick.

well.....I was really good at math....got in the 99.6 percentile on one of those test they used to give us....now...mind you...spelling is an entirely different story...all I can remember about that is the "i" is after "e" except after "c" except for sometimes....yah....all spelling is like that for me...flunked out of freshman English twice because we had to write an essay on the spot for the finial and in those days, we could not use a dictionary and spell check was not invented yet.....almost dropped out of college because of this...but hey I got 4 A's, 1 B, and an F the first quarter....and about the same the second quarter and finally passed English 101 during a summer session taking it pass/fail...thank goodness there is not much spelling in quilting!!!!!!

Everyone has different strengths. When I was in school and pulling my hair out over math, the Calculus whiz remarked, "I wish I could get a higher grade than a C for English papers." I aced those! And some folks have trouble learning a skill from a book or written directions. They need to have someone physically show them.

Thank you. No, I was typing as it looked, like you do on all websites. Thank you. I should maybe read the fine print.

Oh Mary Beth, I can so relate to this. I was tutored almost every night in my junior year in high school to get me through my algebra course - that was the last course in math I had to have! When I was in college and took an accounting course, I barely passed my final exam because not one of my columns on the 10 column worksheet balanced. All my numbers were in the proper spot but I couldn't add up all the numbers - remember this was long before adding machines/calculators were allowed in the classroom. I didn't have enough time (or fingers) to do the math.
About 15-20 years ago my husband's office was looking for someone to do some accounting work and my sister-in-law asked if I wanted to work part-time for them. I asked my husband what he told her - he said that by the time he stopped laughing, she had left for the day! I was never asked to work for them. I can do simple math, but don't ask me anything complicated. Thank goodness for calculators!
Actually, quilting has helped me slightly with my math skills. You do need to be able to do some simple math to figure out some patterns.

I am so happy there are math lovers out there, that is what makes the world go around. I will tell you a secret, wine tastes worse than Nyquil. I am not like other people. I can follow directions on a pattern. I can cut out patterns. I can piece. I can even come up with my own patterns. However, I tried to take math in college and had to hire a tutor. One night after a "groundhog" type day with my tutor, where she would help me through a problem...I seem to get it...then the next problem looked totally foreign. She looked at me and asked, "Who did this to you?" When I say I cannot do math.....please believe me....I cannot do math. I can cook, measure, even double a recipe. But don't give me anything harder than addition and subtraction.

Believe it or not but it has to be added correctly or it won't accept it....glad I have my calculator handy...hope they never go to multiplications and divisions.
-
Mary Beth reacted to mlsa3 in Win A Millie September '17 version
I've actually almost put the wrong addition in the blank to see if it would still accept it or does it have to be correct. Decisions....decisions.

Mary Beth,
Are you referring to the spam do dad? If you are did you add the numbers together? I am so used to just typing what is shown that I didn't initially realize that I was supposed to add the numbers and not just type them!! If I had read the instructions I would have done better.
