  1. Congratulations, Terry! A well-deserved honor!
  2. Jennifer's Quilt

Sorry, I don't have any quilting ideas for you, but WOW, that is a beautiful top!
  3. NQR - Asking for Prayers

Mary Beth, I am so sorry to hear about Remy. We lost a baby in 1990, so I know some of what your Kayla is experiencing. Praying for Kayla and Cody and the rest of the family.
  4. Needles?

Rosemary, I am so sorry you had that issue with your top. Shame on that shop owner for not telling you if you haven't treated your batiks before sewing, wait until after the quilt is finished to do it. As you have learned, washing tops before quilting can be a nightmare. Retayne and Synthrapol are great products, and I use them on my batik yardage, and cottons, if necessary. When I buy any kind of kit, though, I am always afraid the treatment process will shrink the fabric, or make it so wonky that I won't have enough fabric to make the quilt, so I wait until after the quilt it finished to treat it. You did treat your backing fabric, right? Batiks are easier to quilt if they have been washed. Your loop and swirl plan sounds good to me. Looking forward to seeing pictures of your project!
  5. Needles?

A smaller needle will leave a smaller hole, but you need to select your needle based on your thread, as well as the hole it leaves behind. What size needle does Superior recommend for that thread? I would go with that recommendation. Even batik needle holes will relax over time.
  6. Angel Quilt for Rita Delivered

Thanks for the update, Heidi! Continued prayers for Rita and her recovery.
  7. Update on Rita?

Heidi told me last week that Rita had had a bit of a setback due to her breathing issues, but I haven't heard anything more since then. I just PM'd her to ask for an update. Because she is helping with her twin grandbabies, Heidi doesn't get on the forum as much as she used to.
  8. Yuck

Sounds like the flu. Hope you feel better very soon.
  9. Wow, David, that is a very pretty block! Funny story: Mary Beth's block was delivered with a note on the envelope saying $1.27 postage due. I thought at the time it was for her block, but now I'm wondering if they meant I had another item at the post office with $1.27 postage due. If so, writing the message on a totally different envelope is a very poor way of telling me.
  10. Love it! And my daughter and I love your description of how "easy" it was to make.
  11. Project Angel Quilt

Thank you, everyone, for the many compliments and kind words. I am so happy I could participate in this group endeavor. The blocks sent for Rita really inspired me with their beauty and sentiments. I hope Rita enjoys this quilt even more than we all enjoyed making it for her.
  12. Wow!So honored!

Wow, this is truly spectacular! Congratulations to you and your customer! Those awards were well deserved.
  13. Project Angel Quilt

Heidi, that is good news about Rita!! I shipped the quilt UPS this morning. Per the UPS tracking, it will be delivered at Rita's house on Tuesday.
  14. Project Angel Quilt

Well, that would have been a good idea. Unfortunately, I shipped it UPS this morning. I usually do put a date on my labels, but this was a different format, and it just never occurred to me. Sorry.
  15. Project Angel Quilt

Close ups of blocks with messages.
  16. Project Angel Quilt

Rita's quilt is done! I showed it off to my Bunco group last night, and they all loved it. The "Bunco Babes" were also impressed that so many people from so many places would come together to make a quilt for someone most of them had never met. Twenty-four people from 14 states and 2 provinces. The APQS Forum is a wonderful Family! (Used Circle Lord Cosmos board for the quilting.)
  17. That is so pretty! You and your friend are a great team.
  18. Congratulations, and welcome to the APQS family!!
  19. Project Angel Quilt

Thanks, Mary Beth! I made the half blocks to fill out those rows. I have Sharon Craig's Setting Solutions, where she does advocate cutting up your blocks as needed, but I did not want to do that to blocks I had not made myself!
  20. Project Angel Quilt

Here is a map of the layout. I will put this on the back, along with a label, for Rita. If you see a typo, or want your name to be shown differently, please let me know.
  21. Project Angel Quilt

Just finished the top! It is sideways on my design wall, and I rotated the picture, which is why the left edge looks a bit wavy. Also had to work around my husband's exercise equipment to get the picture, hence the black half circle near the upper left. Tomorrow I load and quilt!
  22. Project Angel Quilt

Don't give me too much credit, Libby. I discovered today that I neglected to consider that the 5 block rows will have 8 sashing strips with the addition of two half blocks at the ends, versus only 7 sashing strips on the 6 block rows. Should have made each of my half blocks an inch smaller. Oops.
  23. lenni

If he has a stitch regulator, that is the sound it makes when it is turned on.
  24. flannel backing

Jennie, the flannel is probably not the issue. Have you tried rethreading your machine entirely? When you changed your needle, part of your thread path could have gotten wonky, creating too much tension on the top thread, and causing it to break.
  25. Project Angel Quilt

Thanks for the input, everyone, and the offers of extra blocks. No more are expected in the mail, but I do have a plan. Rows of 6-5-6-5-6-5-6 will equals a layout of 6x7 blocks, and use all 39 blocks I have received. I am going to make some simple "half" blocks to fill in at the ends of the 5 block rows. I haven't actually contributed any blocks, so this will give me a chance to do that. David, I'm sorry I didn't think to ask you to send another block, even though we had plenty of blocks offered. I will let Rita know what happened there. Because I am on a time deadline, I need to get the top put together this weekend, or I would wait for another block from you. In addition to leaving on our family vacation on March 14th, our oldest daughter graduates with her MBA from Michigan State on March 12th, so I really need to get Rita's quilt done and shipped by next Friday. I will be kind of busy after that.
