  1. Millie and I finally finished this queen size quilt for OUR bed! Completely free motion without the use of computers is how I work.....I've dubbed it "Flight Path" because of all those flying geese!!!! Sew happy!
  2. I just finished custom quilting my client Megan's Arcadia Avenue quilt and it feels so good to be done. It was a great design challenge for me as it is a very modern quilt and I'm more of a traditional girl! And best of all the quilt lays flat!! Oh and it was -26'c with a -32'c windchill when I was taking those pictures outside!
  3. This was a quick small custom I squeezed in for an online quilting friend Wanda - it is going into her guild show next April! I had a lot of fun playing with this - you all know how much I LOVE negative space! She provided Warm and Natural cotton batting and I used Bottom Line thread by Superior Threads. It is my absolute favorite thread for custom quilting! The curly swirl designs (I'm not sure what to call them!) in each of the open white corners was free hand drawn whit invisible ink and then I just free handed over what I drew and pebbled around them to give them a trapunto look. 20150818_095746 by Valerie Smith, on Flickr 20150818_095243 by Valerie Smith, on Flickr 20150816_001409 by Valerie Smith, on Flickr 20150818_095910 by Valerie Smith, on Flickr Including a little peek at the back because I know I don't always think to show it. I had one little hiccup I had to rip where I hit the wrong button and started stitching a million miles a second when I meant to needle down! Pulled that out and the rest I'm really happy with!
  4. I was stressing about how to quilt this, and decided to keep it relatively simple and traditional. I'm almost done with this giant! NINETY baskets!
  5. Well the snow hasn't stopped falling all weekend and into the week so it has been a good few days to quilt this beauty that my client Yvonne brought me. The pattern is called Metro Medallion by Sew Kind of Wonderful, I love their patterns. Yvonne asked for custom quilting so I spent the last 4 days working hard to get it done. Took me awhile to come up with the quilting plan but with lots of inspiration from the SKW blog I soon had that figured out. Lots of pictures on my blog and I even chat about all the rulers I used if your interested.
  6. Wow am I having fun with my Grand Illusion Mystery Quilt. This is the first time I have used my Circle Thingy and I love it....Having the table blissed is a blessing it is so smooth and makes CC so much easier. I have one row done and love how it is turning out I will post more pics at the end...I am enjoying myself I just had to show somebody. Thanks for looking Sew Long for now My quilt is done and I love it.... Add a sleeve and put the label on and It will be ready for the Quilt Show. Yippee thanks for looking
  7. I just finished my last client quilt for the year so I thought I would share some pictures as it was so fun to quilt. My friend Lynn pieced this top using the Shimmer fabric line and a linen/cotton blend fabric for the background. The pattern is called Day Break by Jaybird Designs. I have my own Day Break quilt in batiks ready to go on my machine now that it is my turn to play and I will probably quilt it similar to what I did on Lynn's as I am really happy with how it turned out. More pictures on my blog!
  8. I take the summers off from quilting for clients and quilt for myself. I finished my Metro Hoops quilt yesterday and really enjoyed piecing and quilting this one. The best part is I get to keep this one, well I guess I should say I didn't make it for anyone in particular and those tend to get given away eventually to the right home! Edited to add the 'before and after' pictures as requested!
  9. It has been a while since I have been on the forum, but I have recently retired. Now I am quilting full-time and have time to post pictures. I had a really good time quilting this. I will deliver it to my customer this weekend, I hope she likes it. thanks for looking. star
  10. My friend Lynn brought me her Swoon quilt to custom quilt for her this week. She is going to use it as a wall hanging so I quilted it denser than I normally do for a bed quilt. She likes modern and traditional quilting designs so I blended the two styles together for her. It as a lot of fun to quilt in all the background spaces as I really wanted the stars to pop!
  11. I am thinking ahead about a quilt I will need to quilt that has swags appliqued around the borders...does anyone have any ideas on quilting those? I will probably do a background filler of either McT or something feathery and know that I will need to put something in those swags...any ideas out there? Thanks....!
