pre-design

Recommended Posts

I downloaded the trial version but cannot figure it out. There does not seem to be any designs to look at so I am assuming I have to come up with those. I was hoping for a program that had designs built in and the capability of making my own if I wanted. Am I doing something wrong?.

Hi Nora,

Pre-Design is a vector drawing program for creating your own designs. Find a photo or a picture that has some element in it that you think would be a great quiltling design. Scan it into your computer, note it's location. Go to Pre-Design program and look at the top of the screen for the "background" menu. Open that, choose "load from" picture file. Your choosen image will pop on the screen. Now go to the last icon on the menu bar. This icon is a simple toggle, show, fade, hide. Choose fade, this will dull down the image so you can draw on top of it. Now just play with the drawing tools.

Hi Nora,

For a quick start into the program, watch the tutorial movies on page:

http://www.pre-designstudio.com/tutorials.htm

Each movie is only couple of minutes, start with watching movies # 1 and 5.

There are also some patterns inside Pre-Design Studio: Choose menu File > Open and open the folder "Pattern Samples".

Open the file called: 05 QLT Leaves.PRE (or any of the numbered files). I have included notes on the patterns telling how I made them.

To try tracing yourself: Download background image called "01_easydrawing.png" from page: http://www.pre-designstudio.com/tips.htm

start a new file and choose menu Background > Load from Picture file. Open the background image you just downloaded and in the next window just click on OK.

On that image you will find more instructions.

Have fun!

If you have any questions, let me know! Are you by any chance going to MQS? Then we can meet there!

I just jumped in and bought Pre-Design about 15 minutes ago.

I'm excited to try it and hope the learning curve isn't too long before I can start making borders and pantographs, and motifs of my own for my own quilting. I'll be keeping the webpages that Loews mentioned for my own use in the learning process.

What are the main differences between Pre-Design and Art and Stitch?

I just did my own design for my IQ (longarm computer). I can't believe how simple it was and it converted to the proper file with the touch of a button. Loes, I'm looking at getting the Art and Stitch, is it available yet? If it's as easy to use as Pre-Design it's a must have!!!
