mgregory
I just finished a quilt (my own) that I put one 4" border and one 8" border on all sides. It measured good middle, top and bottom. It rolled good about half way then the sides started getting larger. I went ahead and did a large meandering (since it was my own) and worked in the larger areas the best I could. My question is: Did the borders grow because they were so large or is something else going on? This is the first time I have added a 8" border. JudyL
Maxine: I don't think the borders grew because they were wide. I often do 8 or 10 inch borders because I like to do feathers in them. Was the main part of the quilt pieced? Sometimes I find that when there's lots of piecing in the main part of the quilt and then the borders don't have piecing, because of the excess from the seam allowances in the main part of the quilt, the border seems to get "loose" when rolling. If I see I'm going to have a problem with this, I'll take some batting scraps and stuck them behind my border ever few inches as I'm rolling. This keeps them from getting ripply if there's fullness. Hope this helps.
