doodlebug
as i was quilting the quilt on my frame, i was traveling from one area to another SID, and i was thinking: wonder what a judge would say about that? the more i thought about it, the more i wanted some answers, so i post it here. do judges mind LAing to travel in the ditch to get from one area to another? or would it be preferred to knot each area. my reasoning is, we backtrack on feathers, so why not travel in a ditch to make a filler continous... your thoughts.... witha'K'quilting
I do this all the time...but I have never done a quilt for show. Would it matter if you were planning on doing sid anyways?
dtreusch
I usually try to do SID and quilting inside the block as I go and plan designs so that I don't have to constantly start and stop. Occassionally I have to backtrack through a small area of SID. I'd rather do that than tie off. I also travel through SID on fillers and applique in order to keep it continuous where it makes sense. I think the only thing judges would consider is: 1. Is the backtracking exactly on the previous line of stitching. 2. Does the backtracking detract from the design in any way. If you take a class from Linda Taylor she makes you write down 5 times: "I am not afraid to stitch over a line of stitching again. I am not afraid..". doodlebug
that was a second thought- if i did it SID , i don't see how it would matter, but what if i weren't SIDing....?
dtreusch
If I'm not SIDing, then I make the travelling part of the design element if I can. I am not always able to do that though.
