resizing block patterns

Recommended Posts

Can anyone help me figure out how to resize a block?? I have a pattern for a 24" block and I want to make it 12". Do I just cut all of the measure ments in half, or do I cut them in half and add some for the seam allowance, or is there some special formula for figuring it out..HELP!! I am desperate and in a hurry! All of the quilt shops are closed tomorrow!!:(

If you have EQ5, do a new block for the size you want, draw the pattern, save it and print it. I do it all the time without having to do any complicated calcuations.

I also do this with some simple quilting patterns/stencils and then use the laser. Works great.

Thank you so much everyone! I am new to this and this is great! I tried just cutting the measurements in half as I have never quilted using the template method and guess what.......it didn't work :( Oh well I tweaked a bit here and there and added a border and it looks OK. Not great but OK.

Thank you again!
