bonbon
Does anyone have any special tips for using fleece for backing? I know it stretches in at least one direction. Is that edge better loaded to the zippers (leaders) or to the sides? Does a specific thread work better than others or does the tension need to be adjusted? I was thinking that maybe a little longer stitch would be good to accomodate the stretch and use a panto that does not have dense quilting. What do you think? birgitquilts
Bonnie, I have quilted several quilts that had fleece blankets as backing. I never encountered any problems - just avoid to stretch the fleece when loading it to the roller. When you are dealing wiht a large quilt that requires a pieced fleece backing make sure that the seam is horizontal. A vertical seam in fleece causes a very thick build-up that you want to avoid. Other than that, I use my regular tension settings, Rainbows or King Tut thread as usual (with Bottom Line in the bobbin) and my normal stitch length. Just go for it, it's a lot of fun.
