Lori Dinsmore
Poor Man's Bread In a saucepan, boil for 5 minutes: 2 cups water 2 cups sugar 1 tsp nutmeg 1 tsp allspice 1 cup butter or margarine 2 cups raisins (I use a mix of yellow and regular ones) 1tsp cinnamon 1tsp cloves 1 Tbsp cocoa (if darker bread is desired) cool mixture to lukewarm. Add: 4 cups flour 1 cup walnuts (optional) 1 tsp baking soda Mix well. Pour into two loaf pans, sprayed with Pam and bake at 350 until a toothpick comes out clean, approximately 1 hour. This bread can be served hot with cream poured on top (tastes like bread pudding) or sliced thin and buttered. added advantage...makes your house smell yummy! Sparkle
It sounds absolutely decadent! The recipe sounds more like raisin cake than bread though? right?
Lori Dinsmore
Yes, Angie! I think the only thing that makes it a bread is the pan...or maybe it's the sound.....Poor Mans Bread....Poor Man's Cake.....hmmmm I don't know......but if you try it...I know one thing...you may not be able to only have one piece!
