LuckyLindy333
I hope it is OK to ask about another brand of machine? My friend just bought a used Juki TL98E set up on a handi quilter and has had multiple needle breaking. Does anyone else have this machine that has some suggestions? Thanks for help in advance. Johnmach
When is it breaking? When she is trying to use the cutter, while it is stitching, etc? Johnmach
LuckyLindy333
The needle breaks while the machine is quilting (stitching)
Johnmach
Think of it as a smaller version of your machine. Check the timing and the hook to needle clearance (they are checked just like your machine). Also, make sure she is using the correct needle, and has it in correctly (what needle IS she using?). LuckyLindy333
she has tried several different needles, the latest were top-stitching needles.
Mrs.A
I have a comparable machine (the Brother 1500S). Does her machine break needles when quilting while the machine is OFF the frame? I'm thinking it might have something to do with the movement of the machine over the quilt.
Johnmach
What type of needle is she using: A "standard" sewing machine needle like she uses in her "regular" machine, or the industrial needle that is specified for the Juki? A regular needle is much more likely to bend / break than the industrial because it is not as stiff (strong) as the industrial and has too much flex. Correct needle is an HA x 1. LuckyLindy333
Thanks for all the advice. I think she needs to get some different needles. She was trying to use big eyed needles as her eyesight is not too good.
BabsMac
I have just purchased a TL JUKI 98P and have had problems with both threads and needles breaking. After much twiddling with tension(s) upper and lower - threads (try Presencia) - needles (try Mettler), I adjusted the pedal using telephone directories to take the weight off the heel and disconnected the foot cutter - have now achieved a lovely stitch so do persevere. Was ready to throw the machine out of the window at one point. As the machine is second hand would have a sewing machine engineer look at the timing.
