Bonnie
Mary Beth....I can't hit the high notes in "My Way" anymore so that one is out ....but may be not....I can sing the harmony part you get the high note.... I love all styles as well....my mom use to play the piano and would stand me beside the thing for hours and she would play and I would sing...anything from hymans to what ever was on the top ten charts of that time. Mary Beth
Great....I can attempt the high notes, no promises since I actually sing a tenor type part:) Hymns are great, I love 'em, was raise on them, sing them all the time. Here is my line of expertise.....Gladys Knight and the Pipps; Disco; Blue Grass; Country; Old Rock and Roll. The late '70 and '80s are out (unless you are talking country). I was having babies then and my life is a blur!!
Bonnie
Okay I admit I'm an out of practice, but love to sing Soprano...to give you an idea of what I sound like....Remember Patsy Cline....well that is or was me.....I will have to start warming up my voice....if I want to hit high notes again. Maybe I will just have to rethink this and become an alto. Like you Country, old Rock and Roll, Hymns, some disco, Blue Grass ( I loved the Grand Ol' Opry) so anything there....I too was having babies in the 70's so from about 1974 to 1994 didn't do to much either....But now a Grandma and have guardianship of oldiest GD....so once again a mom, and learning to like Black Eyed Peas.:P Just think we could surprise everyone if we EVER got together and did this. Stagecl
Okay...so I am just over the hill...where is the hill? I don't play CD's much even though I buy a few...I think...hmmm...or are they gifts? I have moved on to DVD's from VHS's...is that an improvement?...I don't watch much of them either...I am just a quilting fool. Only include me if you want a few sour notes:D:P Cheryl Mathre Stone Creek Quilting Sandy Hook, VA
Bonnie
Cheryl, gee's...if you throw out enough sour notes, your bound to hit a few on key. Back up would be a good job, you would only have to help with the chorus and harmonize when required to. It been so long since I saw a vinyl that I almost stopped when reading your piece to say to myself what's a album....got a chuckle out of it, as well. Mary Beth....we could take this on the road to all the quilting shows..... ONLY if the vendors will pay us with goodies and fabric....a girl can always use more toys. Judi
My thoughts - Yes it is louder back by the machine - I do use my Circle Lord a bunch for block designs - I find Pantos to be very boring, sorry, I don't like to follow the line I guess! I have not done a quilt with a full panto since I opened my business, over a year now. I have once for a very wide border on a quilt. I rather enjoy being on the front doing either ruler work or freehand or whatever! I also listen to either books on tape/cd from the library, or music. I want to be able to listen to my machine. I can hear if it is starting to run out of bobbin thread or some other problem...... Nice to catch it as soon as possible!
santell
Hi! I am a new george user. The noise of the machine seems loud for me, as my right ear is near the motor. I am going right out to buy a good pair of headphones now, and thanks for the postings and opinions about the topics!
huwillquilt
cheryl use protection(ear) that is LOL hearing loss or tinnitus(sometimes caused by prolonged noise) is no fun ,invest in a decent set of noise cancelling head phones and it will make a world of difference for you. kwilter
Cheryl, Just saw your posting about noise and earplugs. I have begun to use an earplug in my right ear. After having my Millie for 2 1/2 years, I have developed a thumping/pulsating sound in my right ear while trying to sleep. The only way I don't hear it is lying on my back, thus causing many sleepless nights. Have you noticed this problem?
Judi
Kwilter - Just read your post - I have what is called a "Veinous Hum" (sp?) in my right ear. It started in 1996 and I did not start longarm quilting until about 4 years ago. Mine started when I first became pregnant. Saw many specialists - the ONLY way to stop this is to tie-off the vein in my neck. The noise I am hearing is my blood rushing though it. If I push in on my neck I can stop the noise - but my Doc. yells at me for doing that.... Don't do it! He says..... Especially when I was expecting my second child..... Well, this year I started having bad headaches - really bad! Laying in the bed crying bad! We have since changed some of my meds. and I now also have Imitrex for the bad times, try to take one before it gets bad... anyhow I have noticed that the noise in my ear is gone most of the time now. This really freaks me out in away - Why did it change? Doc. says not to worry about it. My friendly little noise comes back now and then, mostly when it is really quite and I am hand sewing. I have learned to always have noise - I even play my radio really soft at night to fall asleep if my husband doesn't have the t.v. on. Talk to your Doc about this. I had the whole CT scan on my skull and such, hearing tests, everything. Now I have just gotten used to it and no longer want to stab a very sharp object into my ear!! I do know what you are going though - I wish you the best in dealing with this. In my case there was nothing they could do to stop it. Since then ANY annoying repetitious noise bugs the you-know-what-out of me - and I HAVE to stop it - NOW! And I usually do!!! My thoughts will be with you - maybe you can at least get something to help you sleep - been there done that too!!
