Merryjo2003
This is my cat Acro. He's a stray that adopted us 9 years ago. He loves to "help" me sew. If I'm cutting out a pattern, he's taking off with the pieces. If I'm trying to sew on my DM, he sits in my lap. He stays off the quilting machine (that's a wonder) and I never let him near a customer's quilt, but he helps me with my own. That's probably why it takes me longer! He was so cute I couldn't resist. I also have 2 horses, 2 german shepards, a bunny and a land tortoise. They're all a bunch of comedians. They all love my daughter dearly. Life would a lot more dull for all of us without them. Bonnie
My helper hasn't found the sewing room yet....but she sure is a computer cat...will lay so I have to struggle to reach the keys or she will lay on my key board so I can't get to them....to funny. Love the animals.....its not that I don't want her in the sewing room its just that she hasn't found it yet....we adopted her in July 2006 and she mostly just lays around...she is a hurricane victim from last years season when they hit up the east coast. We call her Sweetie, and must have gotten pretty beat up...she lost her tail and she limps bad. I think there are still things healing up inside because if you pick her up wrong it really really hurts her...so we just let her come to us and we love her when she is ready each day for that special time. Guest Linda S
Yes, I have two orange tabbies. One of them is quite content to come up to the quilt room with me, and he has his own little batting bed to sleep on. However, if I've been at the quilting machine for too long, he starts meowing up a storm and rolls on the floor by my feet, demanding that I pet him! He's very cute. When I start shutting everything down, he goes to the top of the stairs and waits to escort me down. Linda
Mary Beth
I had a helper, her name was Cricket. She was the best cat ever. I made the mistake of putting her inside my robe when she was a baby and carrying her around with me. Then when she became obese she wanted me to keep it up but I didn't have the strenght. She was part Siamese so I called her my Siamese twin! She passed away last year in August....boy do I miss her. Her name was a little ironic. When she was little she would jump 4 feet straight up when you would frighten her. Then when she got older she plumped up and couldn't lift her big butt off the floor:D. People would laugh when I would tell them her name. I had her on a diet her entire life and she was still plump....I told everyone she was petite!! Stagecl
I have two helpers which are cats named Billly and Boo. Billy has been a bad kitty in the quilting room...he put 2 holes in a customers quilt the night I forgot to shut the door to the sewing room. He is definitely a wild man! I had a long search for the fabric, but I found it and replaced the torn pieces. Yes, I did tell my customer because I needed to know if she had any extra fabric for the repair work. Boo is a gentle soul...she was a kitten in the barn...we didn't think she would survive with the rest of the cats out there because she has mitten paws (and a stump for a tail)...she would not be able to defend herself. This was 6 years ago...we adopted Billy to keep Boo company only about a year ago...who was I fooling...he isn't her type. I never thought I would have cats in the house because I am allergic to them...oh well:) Cheryl Mathre Stone Creek Quilting Sandy Hook, VA
quiltmonkey
I wouldn't know what to think if I didn't have fur on my bed quilts. I have three German Shepherd Dogs (a.k.a. German Shedding Dogs). Love the quilts and the dogs...Can't part with either the quilts or the dogs, so, I just gotta deal with it! Fortunately, my "future" quilting room with longarm will have a closed off door so I can keep the German Shedders and their fur out of that room!!! Charlene
Hi, Of course, I have helpers. I have to keep my LA room door closed when I am not in there, because Norton, our cat, thinks a loaded quilt is his personalized hammock. Snoopy, our beagle, thinks batting is the greatest thing to eat that has been invented. When I have a quilt loaded and the batting is hanging down, he is banished from the room. Otherwise he loves laying on any fabric or quilts he can find. When I am doing domestic sewing, he lays at my feet and gets perturbed when I have to move to iron something. 9patch
I have four cats, three are pretty sensible. The fourth, Winkle--nicknamed Monkey-cat, is not so very. Before I knew him better, he got a hold of a ball of pearl cotton and proceeded to ingest it. I caught this in progess and pulled from him over 200 inches of the stuff. I have even caught him messing with the tail of thread that hangs from the bobbin of my longarm. All cats are banned from my sewing room when a quilt is on the machine. Winkle takes this banishment to heart and waits for me outside the door. I must make sure all pins and threads are tucked away before I can let him in....and never unsupervised. I have had eight cats over my lifetime, and never has one been such a problem with thread. Keeps me on my toes.
ramona-quilter
Elaine (onesewise), How wonderful that you have trained your retriever to help you with block selection and piecing. Looks like she puts her head into it. My cat, Razzle (aka Speedbump or Her Chubbiness), is a plump one, like me. She was a rescue kitty and just doesn't know that she is not human. Her job is to monitor anything that goes on the floor. After reading the newspaper, my husband leaves it laying on the floor. Raz has to sprawl out on it adjusting herself just right until she has lain on all parts of the paper. She just figures she owns the floor. We are auditioning flooring for the kitchen and brought home an 18" square of flooring and set it on the floor near the cabinets to see how it matched. The cat was nowhere around. But her radar must have gone off about the 'strange' object on her floor. Within minutes she was on the job, laying on that 18" square of flooring, showing it who the boss is. Her Chubbiness' girth almost completely covered the flooring. Too funny.

LindaSusieQuilts
My helpers, a Black lab..... she likes to walk on the hanging batting..grrr and my pug who use to have to put her paw on a quilt before I could mail it back.... as I folded it.. she would come up and put her paw on it as if to say..... "It passed inspection you can mail now"..... it was cute.. and the mother pug..... I have to watch as she will lick and swallow a raveling or thread hanging on...... I pulled 60" of trimmed nylon netting from her one day............that was before I knew you werent suppose to pull it out.... If I am sewing...... I stop if I hear repeated licking.... some one is swallowing something......

Bonnie
ALot of shops in Montana and Nevada have quilting cats in their shops....Was always fun to find a cat while looking for fabric...never minded the little cat fur. They normally had their special hiddy holes so didn't bother it all.
GERRY
Now I don't have a cat, but my boys each have one, My noisy boy has a quiet cat, her name is "Yoshi" after his favorite Nintendo game at the time, & my quiet boy has a noisy cat, named Nickadeemus & man can that cat make noise I swear that he really talks to me, mostly he says I'm hungry (non stop, at the top of his lungs) a lot. Both cats think that a loaded quilt is a great bed, but I chase them off with the air compresser, (that works for a day or two), then their back. I would like to have a little dog (cat size) but my DH says that as long as our little puppies (the boys) are still at home a dog is out of the question, dogs need far to much time, attention, & care. Where as cats fend for themselves quite well. The orange one is Nickadeemus, & Yoshi is his Mommy.

carolvandenburg
What would we do without our "helpers." Mine are 2 Briards. Thank heaven they can't jump up on my machine, but they are never more than a few feet away from me, usually under my feet. We lost our big boy this summer to cancer. My heart still aches for him. Our new puppy Zack, is 5 months old and 50 some pounds already. He is sooooooooo quick. I think he can snatch a scrap of fabric before it hits the floor. Our female is 3 yrs old and very sweet and mellow. My motto is "no outfit is complete without dog hair."
QuiltFaerie
I just love seeing all those fuzzy little faces. How adorable! I'm a cat person. Two little whiskered friends. Winnie, 8 yo brown tabby and K.C., classic brown tabby with white, seven month old terror. Just ask Diana. K.C. kept attacking her from behind the batting while Diana was trying to help me load my first practice piece. Gail

JoAnnHoffman
Expert quilter. Once I had a quilt laying on the floor looking at the horrific ruffled border. Whiskers walked by, looked at the quilt and and started to pat down the puckers. Even she knew something was wrong. She has many of her own quilts that were made just for her.
