Little House Creations
This may seem like a no brainer - but if I'm going to try to custom a sampler quilt - where do I start? Should I SID around each block and then quilt inside the blocks? . . . then the sashings ..... then the borders? Thanks in advance from the voices of experience! DoryJM
Hi Bev...I used to do just that when I first began quilting. Now I work it like any other quilt and if at all possible, I avoid SID. I find that if I do something such as continuous curve in the design and then a fill in the background squares, you won't need to SID. I do work each block one at a time, but I work my way down the quilt just like usual. Good luck!
Primitive1
I work my way down the quilt as well. But if I am SID anything - I would do that first to make sure that the blocks keep their square shape as the detail and background if heavy would tend to shrink it up.. Quilting Heidi
I almost always start with SID. I just like the look of it. If I'm doing cc's though I may not do the SID. My normal process is to do the SID on inside border, then the blocks then any outside borders then I start to fill it in. I love when I can get it all done before I roll but if I'm going to do any dense background fill I try not to do that until the end.
connieb
I just completed one. I worked my way down the quilt. It was my second custom and the first sampler that I did custom on.
jeri
If I'm ditching I do all of it first. Keeps everything nice a square. I check every block as I go along and any long straight lines with rulers that way I know that my straight lines are straight By doing that I can adjust for any wiggles in the piecing . chickenscratch
I'd like to see pictures of your sampler when you're finished. I have one to do and need ideas.
