Debwinter
What type and brand of thread do you use for your longarm quilting on your APQS machine cotton or poly?
witha'K'quilting
I love superior so fine, bottomline and rainbows. These are my favorites.
chrisquilter
I agree with Kristina, Superior is my go to thread. Especially So Fine because I like the weight. I have used many, many, other thread brands and with slight adjustments not many problems. However, I will say, King Tut is probably my least favorite. cblevins
Our Millie LOVES Metro and I LOVE the sheen and the price can't be beat. We only use magnetic bobbins. With Metro and magnetic bobbins we never have tension problems anymore.
Guest Linda S
My very favorite is Glide (from Fil-Tec [bobbincentral.com]) which is a poly. I also like their cotton - Cairo Quilt. I use a lot of Superior's Thread too. My go-to there is probably So Fine, which looks like a cotton, but is a poly. I love King Tut, but have only recently (since they got a lot more solid colors) begun to order much of it. I like variegated thread, but it just doesn't work as often as most people think it will. Superior's new Omni thread is nice also. It has the look of cotton, but is less linty than cotton -- a bit more linty than poly, however.
KathG
I mainly use Superior, but also like Glide and Metro. Have just bought some Aurofil to try.
pmuntz
I have a question - I'm a newbie. I just watched Dawn's video re what to do with your thread tails - burying them in the quilt. Do you bring all your threads up to the top - beginning and ending? She recommends making very small stitches to start and stop, so do you bring your threads up both times too? What do you recommend? witha'K'quilting
I bring both top and bobbin threads to the top. after taking a few tiny stitches...i usually cut off the thread tails. i used to bury...but then i do not quilt for show either....so i stopped burying threads. Yes, I bring the bottom thread to the top at both the beginning and the end of stitching. Then I bury both threads tails together at each end of the stitching line. Gator
Welcome to the family. Favorite pre-wound bobbins: Fil-tech magna-glide / magna-quilt / magna-delites (no tension problems/only bobbin I use. Favorite thread: Fil-tech glide and Superior Sew-Fine
Kueser
When I started my favorite thread was So Fine. I've now found Omni and it's my go to thread. Very few tension problems and breakage is minimal like you have with the varigated threads.
victoriasews
I've been a Superior So-Fine groupie for years until given a free sample cone of Fil-Tec Glide. I love it and it's a bunch cheaper. Today I tried their variegated thread and it is gorgeous.
lisae
I have to admit, I am a bit of a thread junkie! Having said that, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Glide top thread and Magna-Glide Delight bobbin thread! But I also use King Tut, Rainbows, So Fine...whatever looks good on the quilt. For bobbins, hands down winner is Magna-Glide Delights!
quiltmonkey
I am not a thread snob so that said, I use almost any kind of thread... I've got quite the assortment. I love the cottons, polys and well, all of it. FUN!
cmoore1223
I use mostly Superior threads and I wind my own bobbins. I've tried Aurofil and while I liked the look, I hated all the lint. My machine will take anything.

DL Semmens
I think when you are first starting out you can't go wrong with Sew Fine. Several of our new longarmers in the area were having issues with tension. They moved to Sew Fine and have less trouble, as they get more comfortable with their machines they will experiment with new thread and adjusting tension.... RitaR
I use both cotton and poly of most kinds, Penny and I hated lava, which I found out later it was for piecing. in Special threads I only tried Egypian cotton, nothing special as far as I know. I have quite a bit of glide, havent had a quilt to try it on. Rita.R
connieb
I use Glide, Lava, Rainbows, so fine and glide's varigated that I can't remember the name of right now. Magna delights and bottom line for bobbin thread
