mshovestul
I am new to longarm quilting... I have been practicing on solid fabrics and muslin. I have a quilt that I want to stitch. It does not have any borders on it. Do I add some scrap fabric onto the quilt so that I have something to baste down? or do I just work at basting as close to the edge as possible? ffq-lar
You can baste close to the edge or pin baste it. Both accomplish the same thing. If you opt to baste it, stitch outside the quarter-inch line where the binding will attach. I pin baste exclusively because it allows for adjustments as you stitch. Stitch-basting is less forgiving. It is recommended though, if you are stitching pantos from the back so you don't catch or flip up the edge as you stitch onto the top.
JustSewSimple
I bow to Linda R. But, I stitch baste by zigzagging right at the edge. If I have to adjust I just clip a couple of stitches and move on. My customers like the zigzag as they say it makes it easier to bind. After I said all this, just do as Linda says!!! mshovestul
Okay - this may be a dumb question, but how do you zig zag?
Sandra Darlington
I recently started doing something like Sylvia's zig-zag, but mine is more of a wave. Same outcome, though.
Sheila Poore
I baste a zig zag like Sylvia, needle up needle down, a little slow but I love the control and result.
