Sharonarooni
Are there any tools that any of you like to use while doing a curved SID? I am wondering if Deloa'a Appliguide or something similar would help. My curved SID is pretty pitiful. Lol Any recommendations in addition to much more ppp and trying to look ahead? JenniferBernard
The only way I can do it is with my Quiltazoid. I just can't hold a ruler steady and get the next row lined up evenly.
GrandmaLKB
I've used the curved rulers - if you can find just the right curve and just go slow..... Jennifer.........how do you use your QZ?
LisaC
I use my straight ruler to help me guide; once I got the hang of it it works beautifully and I don't have to change my ruler.
K. Szymaszek
I use Deloas appliguide. Works great.

Zora
Do you have microdrive handles? They allow me to do any kind of SID around any shape without the use of any type ruler at all.
Sharonarooni
Yes, I do, Zora. I actually took them off so I could do ruler work. I will put them back on and try it with them. I don't know why I didn't consider using them. Great idea! thank you!
Zora
Just adding here...my microdrive handles stay on all the time, and I do tons of ruler work. When using the microdrive handles for going around applique...use your thumb and forefinger to grasp the handles. That allows you to place the heel of your hand on the quilt (using the extended base) on both sides, so you have really good control. You are basically using fine motor skills. If you have a more sweeping curve, its the same principle as driving a car. Look where you want to go and you will "drive" the machine there...instead of looking at the needle. ffq-lar
I need a template to keep on track when following a curved seam or applique. I have a set of arcs that I use. With an outside curve and an inside curve in one tool, it keeps me on track.
JenniferBernard
I use the curved cross hatch templates, 1inch and 1/2 inch. You can also do some circles with the base plate.
Liam
I have used DeLoa's Boomerang rules in the past; I just recently got her Appliquide ruler....but haven't tried it yet.
Quilting Heidi
I would say for curved SID my go to is always the Deloa's boomerangs. I usually have one that fits the size needed and they work so well. I use them for curved cross-hatching and cc's too.
LadyLake
With the Bliss track system, I use a small straight ruler and turn the stitch regulator off, then go very slow.
Bonnie in Ok
Is there a video of someone doing this techique with the bomerang rulers around applicae? I have tried going around applicae with rulers and always seem to fall off the path with the applicaguide of Deloas. Thinking something is wrong with what I am doing.
