bsalmon
Any hints on tension settings when quilting batiks? Both the quilt top and backing are batik.
sue in Australia
Hi Batik has a wax coating that makes the warp and weft threads stick together unlike ?ntreated cottons that, when the needle lowers into the fabric, the threads are able to separate and make way for the needle. This is what makes the fabric stiff and to get a more defined looking stitch you might have to increase the tension on the bobbin and top tensioner. With some weaker threads such as cotton this might be too much for the thread and it will break. If you can find a polyester thread in the colour you need this might be the answer. Some batiks seemed to have more wax than others. Hope this answers your question. Painted finish fabrics can have the same problems.
