Jrue
Brand new to my new Millie. Took the paper bobbin out & put magnetic one in. Bobbin house would not slide down the thread like it did with paper bobbin. I did remove the check spring as instructed. How do I determine correct bobbin tension with magnetic bobbins? Quilting Heidi
I use a separate bobbin case for my magnetic bobbins, you run those much looser then normal.Loosen enough so it isn't jerky.
Jrue
I have loosened the bobbin case tension a crazy amt but case does not slide down thread when gently bounced. Is that normal? Plan for a second bobbin case but just got machine set up 12/6, 1st day to use today.
Busy Quilting
Magnetic bobbins will not slide down the bobbin case. The magnet holds them still. Your best test is to pull on the thread and see if it has a similar pull to the top thread through the needle eye when they are both in a quilt sandwich
judyday
I'm very glad for this information. I have not used the magnetic bobbins that came with my George yet. This is all good to know.
yankiequilter
I use a Towa gauge to check the tension of my bobbins, including the magnetic bobbins.
Jrue
Thanks for all the help. I did just test pull with too thread & it felt even & stitches were nice, no top thread on backing. What is towa guage?
Zora
I use a bobbin wound with Bottom Line to set the tension, then replace with the magnetic bobbin. It's the same weight and this method has been working well for me for years.
Sheila S.
Could someone please tell me what a Towa gauge is and how you use it. I am guessing it is to adjust the tension in the bobbin. I do not have one and I am a new Lenni owner and would like to know if it is really something I need?
ffq-lar
Here's a link. Lots of them available on Amazon and various suppliers. It allows you to measure the force needed to pull the bobbin thread around the pulleys and you adjust the bobbin case screw to get the "number" needed. https://www.superiorthreads.com/product/notions/tension-gauges/ It's a great tool and I've used mine to test every bobbin for many years.
