Sheila S.
Does anyone ever use good quality sheets for their quilt backing? If so or if not could I get some feedback on the disadvantahes and advantages? Thank you.
qltnbe
I have always heard that using sheets is not a good idea because of the high thread count. Of course, in the olden days (like my grand mother's days), I think that is what they used because they didn't have seams, but now that we have large backs, we don't need to resort to that. I for one like to use pretty fabrics on the back and even piece extra blocks on the back, so you don't even see me often use a wide back.
Bonnie in Ok
I have had customers give me sheets to use and haven't had a problem with them but mostly they used a cheaper sheets so they were always a lower thread count.
Zora
Yes, use lower quality sheets. The high thread count ones are damaged by the needle.
Sheila S.
Are you meaning the 300 count as lower quality or lower?
meg
DeLoa taught me a trick to use cheap Kmart sheets for practice. I do this all the time. I use them top and bottom without a problem.
Liam
I have used sheets a couple of times. The real cheap ones @ Walmart; can't remember if they were 180 or 200 thread count.
Zora
Yes.180 to 200 thread count cheap sheets from Walmart are best.
cherylannie
The lower count sheets are not soft and do not hold their color. After the investment into the quilt top and the time that it takes to make it, it is worth the investment to put a good quality backing on it.
