How do you handle?......

Recommended Posts

When you are working on a quilt and you use a color thread that closely matches the top, there are times I feel totally blind.  I can't see where I am going or where I have been.  I have resorted to working in the dark with Jamie Wallen's side light resting on my bars to cast shadows.  Are there any other suggestions?    This is very tiring on the eyes when you are straining to see.  I just did a baby quilt and thank goodness it wasn't any bigger.

Sometimes turning off the overhead lighting is enough to see the shadows from the thread lines, but I also have lights at either side of my machine that I can angle along the top. They are just those goose neck type, cheap desk lamps that clamp onto things.

I actually had a harder time seeing the cream thread on the green fabric that had squiggles in the design, than I had with the cream thread on the cream fabric.  Makes me not want to use the same color thread on a quilt.

Good suggestion.  I keep forgetting the black light on our machines.
