Shirl
I have a request to baste a quilt 75 inches by 85 inches so it can be hand quilted. This is the first time I've had a request for this type of work. How do you charge for basting? And how do you baste it? Do you set the machine stitches at 4 or 5? Do you charge a set-up fee and charge for thread? I'm at a complete loss and will appreciate any help you can offer. My customer wants an estimate and I have not a clue what to tell her. Also, do you do every 4 inches, 6 or 8 inches? HELP! HELP! Help!... Shirley-NH
Guest Linda S
Shirley - when I do this (and I've only done it once so far), I just load the quilt as I normally would do, but I just use the needle up and down to put in some BIG stitches, about every four inches. I started off my business not charging a set-up fee for anything, but I think I'm going to have to change that. I work way too cheap. I charge .006 cents a square in (of the total quilt size) for basting. Linda
