DoryJM
I'm going to be doing some SID with monofilament thread. Anything I need to know? Do I loosen the tension considerably, like with my DSM?
Mary Beth
Yes, almost to the point that you think your tension discs will fall off...very, very loose.
Nadia Wilson
Have a look at Superior threads site www.superiorthreads.com there is an article there under the education section that talks about and explains using the mono thread. I really like using the mono-poly thread, and I loosen the tension until the thread has no more "curl" to it as it comes through the eye of the needle. It is very loose. I've had great success with either Bottom Line or So Fine thread in the bobbin.
DoryJM
Thanks MaryBeth and Nadia... Talk about loose (tension, I mean)...yikes!
Quilting Heidi
Dory with Monopoly I usually only go through 2 holes on the pigtail instead of all three and I also loosen the tension a lot.
ffq-lar
Yep to all of the above! I just finished a top with the Monolon that was recently recommended here. It also worked great but it is literally as thin as a hair. Great for stitching but not so great to discard--the clippings wouldn't stay in my coffee filter taped to the machine so I resorted to putting a sticky-side-out wrap of painter's tape on my sleeve and pressing the discards on! KathyA
Dawn also recommends only winding your bobbin half way to avoid stretch and to loosen the tension on your bobbin winder. Is till wind it full but do loosen the tension alot on the winder.
