Good morning! I also do not shine the light on the quilt. I made a tray that goes across the leveler bar and the quilt top bar and put the motif on that with a piece of plexiglas over the top to hold it in place. Then I put the needle down where I want it, adjust the laser light and off I go. Works really well. One thing I learned from have a computerized system on my prior machine is that the more you do a motif, the more it imprints on your brain and pretty soon, you can actually do them freehand. Nice, eh? I also found out something really exciting yesterday thanks to Jessica Schick.
