  1. I am fairly new to long arming. I have a non regulated ULT2 and am not coordinated with rulers at all-yet. My questions are... can I load the quilt and pin. Remove the quilt to stitch in the ditch then remount the quilt for FMQ fills? What can go wrong? I am not doing panto work so alignment isn't concerning me at this point. Any and all advice is needed!-Thank you.-gail
  2. So there is hope to accomplish this?-THANKS...so far it all seems awkward...I'll keep at it!
  3. I have an older ULT2 without SR. I got the hang of doodling and pantographs. I have to work on smoothing curves out but am confident I can do so. I would like to do ruler work. I have Sheri's foot. Will it be possible to do this without sewing my fingers off or creating random lines? Any of you guys out there...please give advice if this can be done.-Thanks!
  4. Yeah Sue the wheels ride in the groove...really on a lip in the groove so I have only about 1-2 mm to work with as far as width of the replacement wheel goes. I did explore some v groove bearings but the width/bore combos didn't work without more mods. Ideally, a bit smaller diameter wheel might be better because of the deadbar clearance as you say. If they rode on a rail I would have more options. I guess I will take Jim's advice and get the liquid wrench bath ready. Then I have more leeway to experiment with replacement wheels. At least I got the lower really smooth rolling!:)
  5. Thank you Sue!...Jim had chimed in on my dilemma too.....I'm obsessing over this, but I think I have to get these old worn wheels off without destroying my machine! I have no clue what adjustments I can make after the old wheels are broken loose and if I get the edge rider wheel.
  6. Got a used ULT2 but couldn't get the table to the lower level finally finished my Frankenstein table mostly out of DIY ideas. It cost me about 1200 to build. I did buy the handi Quilter pole upgrade kit for 250 for the 10ft option-all else was made out of t-slot aluminum. The leaders are of a wonderful sturdy outdoor upholstery fabric that has very little to zero stretch. It was better than any of the ticking I found. Made "snappers" out of PVC tubing and u channel. The light bar span is an old flat curtain/valence bracket with LED lights. The top is corrugated plastic which is pretty nice, light stuff. I am using PTFE/Teflon rod for my horizontal rails and SS wheels with excellent results-however I cannot get the machine wheels to budge for replacement which has become my only problem. I am looking for a smooth rolling replacement wheels for the upper/machine too. All recommendations welcome...or if anyone is trying to part with some older polymer wheels just message me. My DIY table can also accommodate the 12 ft poles from the original ULT2 wooden table too. All that said-I may not need the 12ft option. If anyone is interested in purchasing the complete table which would include rollers-arms etc-please message me. It would need to be local pick up in NW Indiana and I am asking 350. The rails are 22.5in centers- angle aluminum The table can be used with many other carriages with u groove wheels that have 22.5 center span and many machines. The table is like the one below. ....Now I need to improve my skills..so different than my domestic set up.!
  7. Jim..I need help removing old wheels on an ULT 2 (new to me) to replace them.  I don't want to force them(might be original)and break something...any direction is appreciated.-Thanks!

Jim-Thanks for the reply-Yes it is an oldie..When I try to turn the bolt both bolts turn...I wasn't sure if using brut strength would mess anything up.  There is a sleeve and a bushing with a set screw-I guess the bushing is setting the sleeve-but again I'm a little shy to start disassembling things that do not need to be undone.  I was going to try some nylon wheels on the machine.  I ended up having to build a table from slot aluminum b/c I couldn't get the wooden table around the corner to get to my basement. I have put teflon rail on with Stainless steel wheels on the lower carriage..I'l. see how that works-if not I'll put on a SS rail.  I'm also toying with making bliss like wheels using an aluminum gusset and SS bearings-but that's later down the road. Edge riders look nice but a little pricey for now. I do have the vertical wheel set up.-I appreciate your help-!!!-Gail

If you build your own wheels, make sure you use 2 sets of bearings per wheel (inside and outside) or wide roller bearings.  That will make the wheels more stable, and provide much better support for the machine.  Bliss is simply a linear bearing system.  You can buy the basic parts on line pretty easily, and then you'd only have to fit them to the carriage.

In my opinion, bliss is un-necessary for vertical wheel machines.  It helps with the horizontal wheel configuration because keeping the wheels adjusted is problematic.  I think APQS made one mistake after another in their design, until it was finally partially corrected with the Bliss linear bearing set up.  Keeping vertical wheels would have eliminated the problems they encountered with their horizontal wheel system.  No one else uses horizontal wheels do they?

Good luck with your project.  Jim

I hope not! ....I agree with the horizontal being problematic...logically I don't perceive it as ideal due to the forces involved...Bliss/Breeze...nice linear type set ups...a later project for me!

      Again-Thanks for your input-mail

  8. That is a great price. I would love a millie, buuuut it really is just too big- thanks for looking out!!!
  9. Yep..I missed out .....saw they were mostly all sold. Old Lenni would've been my choice
  10. ISO an Ultimate I or II. Newer models and other models would be considered, however I do not want to spend a lot. I am just a hobbyist looking for a machine that has a reasonable throat size. Preferably w/in 150 miles of the Chicago area. If further out, I would be open to shipping just the machine but have no clue of that cost.
