Yikes!!! That idea seems like a very dangerous thing to do! I say no, don't do it. Enjoy the scenery along the drive. Think of your husband... and his safety as well. If you want to sew, do this for an hour in morning or evening inside your hotel room!

We have so many wonderful choices in threads, (as well as everything else for that matter---patterns, fabrics, etc....) aren't we lucky? And frankly, all of them are nice. One is not better than the other. They are all good. So, try them all. Support them all. Have fun!

Hi Jim! I bought a Singer 221 from ebay in late 2010 for around $300.00. Her name is Elsie Mae. She was born in 1956 and came with her original case, feet, owners manual and the original foot pedal. She's very cute, in great condition and I enjoy sewing on her. if I would have known you fix and sell them I would have bought one from you... mmmm maybe some day I'll call you and get Elsie Mae a friend.

LOL You guys are so funny!! Zeke...... !!! OK my "hippie stipple" is like normal stipple except it's really exaggerated like you would see as the backdrop on a Jefferson Airplane song. Both machines are very, very nice! I suggest that you test drive both of them. Take your time. Go to a show(s) or a dealer's place and spend a few hours on each machine. I use Quickbooks for my business. My CPA uses Quickbooks so, when tax time comes, I can just give her my business data files electronically on the USB flash drive and she can take it from there. Before you dive into a business, do your research, ground work. Visit your local SBDC or SCORE office. Get advice from local professionals who help get small businesses started. Write a business plan. Know that there are a lot of up front costs to get started. Take your time. Expect to take at least 2 years (maybe more?) to see a profit. Be pragmatic with your goals. Those sewing cabinets that fold up into a pretty piece of furniture are very nice indeed, but instead of getting one of those, I bought an oak dining room table (on sale) at the furniture store. It's big and it's solid. I'm happy with it. I have a dedicated sewing room so no need to put things away like I used to when the sewing room took over my bedroom! I have a large extended table attached to my sewing machine so I have a flat surface to work from. Maybe some day I'll get a cabinet but for now this works good.

Makin, don't feel too bad. It's learning curve that all of us travel on... Make sure your thread path on top is correct and that you aren't missing any of those pigtails, etc. Also make sure your thread is completely in the tension disc. If you're getting loops on bottom your top tension is too loose or you've missed something in the thread path. Keep tweaking and playing. Don't be afraid to twist that tension knob!!!
